Did not think it was a fairy story Rab, However in the 60s-70s the North West Fed had 800 members and about 100 were in the 3 bird Championship club which to my mind was far superior to club or Fed racing due to all being on a level par with 3 nominated birds competing for pools. To my mind it picked out the fancier who could condition his birds rather than those who sent 40+ and could'nt pick their nose. Mob fliers are the downfall of many a club which includes the national.

May I add another scenario. A Fed is made up from clubs within that Fed however their is a Championship 3 bird club where the birds competing in the Fed race are duplicated into the Championship club. The fancier could be first in his Fed club and also first in his Championship club. Now is that 1 or 2 Firsts ?.

I believe there are some excellent leaders within the ranks however they are not wanted by those who are really running the club due to them not being yes men who can be manipulated. I will go even further and say that their were more than competent candidates for the Secretary position willing to take a renumeration package at half the cost to the club..Oh and this is not sour grapes.

Long distance racing is a totally different ball game to short and middle distance racing and something you will find it virtually impossble to pick your candidate at this time of the year. Joe Murphy's Challenge competition proved that SNFC Section winners could not set individual birds up 6 months in advance of the Gold Cup as so very few made it home. There are more dissapointments when birds have to negotiate 550-650 miles than you could possibly imagine so you will have dozens of theories on which system of setting them up will be the most beneficial to you. The old saying "One mans meat is anothers poison" is not far from the truth. Depending on the family you have you may find you cannot race Y/B because they are slow developers, 150 miles as yearlings, 300 miles as 2 Y/O and anywhere at 3 Y/O is what many top distance fanciers have practiced. There are even more pitfalls when it comes to how far to send them before they go to a distance race. In other posts some give them X races then training tosses only, others will give them nothing and others will give them every race in the club programne. Dal2 says "Many roads etc" and he is correct. To summarise I would say do your own thing and learn from your mistakes. The only advice I can give is set nothing up and only send those that are 100% rirht on marking day.

Samples taken and sent to a Laboratory could take at least 24 Hrs to arrive then perhaps more if the Lab Assistant is inundated with samples adding another 24 Hrs. Any I have done myself show no moving matter and you are basically looking for eggs. I know I have difficulty ascertaining what is matter and what the books show as detrius.

As the President Mr McCord was an ex-officio on the Management Committee, Perhaps the Membership should also know if he attended, Spoke on, or Voted in any of the complaints regarding points raised by Mr Rankine and WHY when the SNFC has a Web Site reports regarding Committee Meetings are not publicated. Yes you are correct SIT,SEE and HEAR.. I know what I did not "HEAR" and that was the explanation from Mr Garven regarding letter not being sent and I am "SEEING" Mr Brown's post which states their was a decision made NOT TO after the Management Committee agreed to.
