Another was Lugols Iodine 7/5% Which everyone used as it was the mainstay of the medicine cabinet and used extensively. I dont remember if I mentioned in an earlier post that when I have my Flu jab I always end up with a lung/chest infection which necessitates a course of antibiotics. On this occasion it happened again but as I had a bottle of Lugols I decided to put half a teaspoon in some water gargling and drinking it down. 48 hours later no cough no runny nose no cattarh and felt great. No wonder the Yanks banned it or the Pharmcutical Companies would have been out of business. For anyone who is interested in it Google it up and have your eyes opened as to its proprietry to the human race.

One of the most important replies to me from the team member was EVERY time you treated with Antibiotics Etc, Was the fact you were killing off the GUT FLORA WHICH IS THE IMMUNE SYSTEM and only the IMMUNE SYSTEM CAN KILL THE PROTOZEA. Now please sleep on that fact.

Andy whit blinkin age dae ye think we are.

It was in the mid 60s before we could get our mitts on aureomycin LOL

Are you aware J.A.M. that 3in1-4in1 medication is probably the worst thing you can give them due to the antis in the tub being off a weaker strength and can make your birds more susceptable to the disease you believe you are treating for but killing off the gut Flora.

Emtryl was all we were ever given back in the 50's Andy and One eye cold was also rife with Quack cures and if memory serves me correctly the only other problem was fielding poisoning which covered every ailment. We never had any of to-days problems because we knew no better.

You would build the Immune System up and continue to feed it with Prebiotics It can also be kicked in. After all if you have no immune system you probably wont have a live pigeon.

I have had a fruitful discussion on Canker with a team member at Belgica De Weerdt to-day and been made more knowledgable regarding this problem. I have kept pigeons for nearly 60 years and to be perfectly honest we fanciers are to a certain extent being taken for mugs when it comes to problems and cures by the Pharmaceuticals and Vets with them knowing we are lacking in knowledge and their desire to persuade us to purchase the products they produce on their say so a cure which they know we cannot disprove. This statement is definately not directed at Belgica De Weerdt as they have been perfectly straight up with the answers given me, to which I am extremely grateful. First of all on this post I asked what killed Canker and the usual answer was Emtryl or metrodinozal, STB said Canker is a protozea and he is correct. I also mentioned that Bacteria can be killed with Antibiotics but Viruses cannot, so what is the answer ???. It was all answered so easily that I could hardly believe what I was hearing and the advice given...Bacteria, Virus's, Canker "Protozea", Fungi, Yeast, Coccidiocis, Salmonella, I could go on and on BUT one natural situation kills them all and that is THE IMMUNITY SYSTEM within the bird..Probiotics "Yoghurt" etc on the feed does it all and see the money you are going to save. P.M. me with cheques, Postal Orders, Cash will be gratefully recieved.

They could not afford to get to 300 mile far less oany further last year LOL. Then lost all their young birds at the last race and the clock men had an easy time of it as their were nae clocks tae open.

So what would kill off a Protozea Alex ?.
-
She was a 2013 Late Bred and purchased Jan 2014 with both her Parents 600 mile winners. The birds are in magnificent condition and dont believe any others are affected although a further test will take place to confirm at the end of March.

Looking at a microscopic photo of Canker and it appears like an extra terestial bug !! so is it a virus or bacteria ?. I have a Micron light Microcope and have never picked them out but if the photo was the result of an Millimicron Electron Microscope then it would be classed as a virus. Now if its Bacteria it can be killed by Antibiotics and if its a virus it can only be destroyed by the Immune System. WHAT is your views on this. I normally give 100 mlg Metronidazole once on weaning and never dose again which has been successful in the past however the result of a swab test has came back Extremely high canker count on what I believe was a bird brought in for stock purposes and her youngster had to be disposed off with Canker. Could she be a carrier and how can you tell unless through another test being carried out.

Just a wee bit sore NAW am kidding its blinking agony and the only thing I am looking forward to is it improving my quality of life and getting walking again without the fear of falling down when it separates. Must admit the surgeon knew what he was doing and had me out in 60 hours. Wee brother looking after them while I am incapacitated so I will string it out till the better weather comes around. He was saying you have a spot of trouble pairing up but the silver lining is Eddy having your cat problems now that he has moved closer to the golden triangle. The kettle is on any time you are passing.

Lofts, Deep Litter, Or The Scraper,
peter pandy replied to THE FIFER's topic in Lofts, Fixtures & Fittings
Used Barley straw for years until modern farming methods meant the Barley stalk was only half the size and combine harvesters chopped it even finer so went back to the scraper. When Easy Bed was introduced for horses I moved onto that with a 6" channel under the perches and a removable wire netting cover in case Youngsters threw up and it stops regurgatated food being eaten. This channel is shoveled out daily. You can purchase a plasic dung remover grape which picks up the droppings and leaves the Easy Bed from any agriculture store so their is little bed being wasted. Nest Boxes are hoovered daily and I would say my loft is dust free. -
Met Brian and Cornelia Long for an interview and was offered the position of loft manager after the death of C.J Williams. He mentioned Red Barcelona and the insemination programne that he conducted with his top birds. At that time in 2006 he had 120 youngsters from him in the lofts so goodness knows how many he finished up with. P.S. I turned him down.

As one who served the SHU for a good number of years on all its committees for same, rules are rules and some were submitted for inclusion designed to be manipulated to the advantage of the organisation concerned. Where this was obvious we threw them out and informed sender with an explanation. SNFC Constitution Rule 10 would have never have been allowed on its wording due to its ambiguity, however its there in our Rule book although its wording would at the committee's discretion require the precise definition of "CONDUCT of RACES" and during "A PARTICULAR YEAR" would be open to question including "1st JANUARY". Rule 10 also specifies "THE SECRETARY SHALL CALL A MEETING" No mention of Officials or Management Committee. Mr Rankine's deposition never queeried the conduct of any race only the comments made by Mr McCord regarding INTEGRITY and COMPETENCE of Officials and SNFC members at a marking station for the Ypres 2014 Race. It is a pity in retrospect that Suspension of Standing Orders was not applied at the AGM then perhaps a successful conclusion could have been reached.

Brought pigeons in that have been successfull up to 750 miles flying Barcelona so given a couple of years I would definately be giving it a go. Their is also the possibility I would have a team ready next year all going well with them being Aarden's.

The Gwent Greater Distance Club in Wales started up if I remember with 15 members and now has 60+ all competing with the BICC with club training from 100 miles every Wednesday. I am sure it could be accomplished in Central Scotland with races starting at 500 miles out to 800 miles then either St Vincent or Barcelona. Going the International route would in all probability be a waste of time. But I suppose we can all dream.

At the moment I have held on to my cheque for subs till I see the outcome. Perhaps if more done the same we may get a resulting EGM.
-
Aye !! I am sure I can avoid it but try telling the birds to stay away fae that area and yir as weel talkin tae yirsel LOL

Not looking to good for racers coming up through Bonchester Bridge Roxburghshire with an Arab setting up a falcon training centre then exporting them to the Middle East. I think you can bet your bottom dollar that their training will definately take place Wed, Thur and Saturday's. That will make it two in that area rearing predators.

I had Psoriasis on my elbows and knees for about 10 years after I stopped smoking. Dr prescribed everything under the sun but nothing cleared it so I started smoking again and it was gone in weeks. I also started taking yoghurt with my porridge and noticed my stools firmed up so give the birds yoghurt on the feed 1 week per month and notice a difference in their droppings. I also give them FlightPath once a month but its the old chessnut, if we cannot see it then we dont know if its doing them any good. My birds are looking in marvellous condition and flying for at least an hour. Last week I sent samples for analysis which came back extremely high canker count ! you could have knocked me down with a feather which goes to prove we cannot see what is going on inside them regardless of their outward appearance.
