  2. often a very hit and miss thing ,,breeding,,, pairing the best to the best seems the most logical way, but doesnt always produce winners,, i have a [this year] 12 year old hen , never raced, bred winners quite regularly with different cocks 3 prize winners last year at 11 years old ,, [the hen never reared them], although i would never go for aged stock birds, this bird seems to be an" exception to the rule" im now wondering if she will fill her eggs this year her sire is sir colin 2cnd nat. nantes when paired to a daughter of angus nelsons 3 nat. nantes

  4. would agree here,, but would be reluctant to use lights for race birds at this time, ,prisoner stock birds tend to put on fat very easy at this time and will eat more in this cold weather then hinder the breeding, ,breeding birds getting out each day , will loose fat with driving etc, probably natures way in preparing them to lay etc.

  19. one thing to be careful with,, in any injection,, wipe the needle with an alchohol swab, between each injection, and change needles as much as poss,,
  20. i would agree with the previous posters,, and have them tested,, but a little aquas iodine in their water until then, would do no harm

  23. yes ian a good posting,,but as you say in your last paragraph,, some of thes" bugs" as i call them, become resistent to anti-biotics,, but as fast as the bugs are becomming resistent to antibiotics,, they are comming out with new antibiotics to combat this ,,, a kind of vicious circle as it were,, but where does it stop,?
  24. there is no doubt there is more disease in pigeons now, than in the past,, i would suspect due to many situations, , i wonder why these diseases are more prevelant to-day than many years ago?? many new un-natural systems?? maybe pushing the boat too far at times?? who knows,,,but as the old saying goes " kick against nature and itll kick back",, i wonder if this is the kick back ,, i often wonder if there is too much inbreeding now,, not [in my opinion, first cross incest , as roly puts it,[but thats the start] but continual inbreeding through many years, with these same inbred or incest birds, i think there is much we dont know about this , and the possible damage it could be doing,, again , who knows?? but its maybe time to delve further into this long term practice, and any possible damage this could be doing in the long term , over many years??
