  1. ;D ;D ;D ;D the war pigeons in this country were aluminium..[.spelt wrong ;D] but marked N, P, S, national pigeon service just wondered if this brass ring was from a fancy pigeon?
  2. this is my point,,, where to we stop?? as the old adage says "kick against nature and it will eventually kick back"
  3. i would agree with strappers post, and think it is a very valid point,,,, inbreeding going on too far, and too long cannot be good thing in the long term , for racing pigeons in general,,and i do believe that the hybrid vigour is needed,, its very apparent in dogs, very close inbred breeds are more often at the vet than mongrels,, although this can be a short term way to breed a winner, in the long term they must suffer,, only my opinion. i have often bred very good pigeons from an inbred cock of a certain" breed" out_crossed, to an inbred hen of a different "breed" , but through all the years of pigeon racing, i often wonder if this can be defined as" out_crossed" now?? i often wonder if this could be one of the many causes of the increase in the many diseases we face to-day :-/
  4. used to do some buskin ;D i was a bus cinducter ;D ;D ;D then an aerial rigger for 30years,, many jobs, then retired dis-abled , then worked voluntary for the c,a,b
  5. snap ;D
  6. i would split bob,, i have found if they dont click right away,, they could just sit with each other for long enough, and be quite happy, im not one for early breeding but maybe split them, with a light on each evening if poss, and a little heating mix,,,, then try again in a week or so,, it would probably be quicker in the long run,,,good luck
  7. many years ago, i borrowed a hen that had topped a fed, to pair to a cock of mine that had topped the fed,,,, each of us had a yb apiece,,,, my yb off this pair won a race,,, it was then we matched the pedigrees of sire and dam,,,,,, they were in fact brother and sister,, this was complete fluke in this paring, i probably wouldnt have mated these two, if i had known,, but there you are,,, nowt as strange as pigeons
  8. if the hens are too fat, it will be harder on them to lay,, but in my opinion , if they get a fly each day,, and a suitable diet,, they should be ok,,, but in this very cold weather they will loose fat , as the fat is being utilized to keep their temperature right
  9. yes i agree there frank,,
  10. ive been the same as you micko, between one thing and another, felt rotten i dont think the birds mind the cold as much as we think,,remember, their temperature is about 4 degrees higher than ours,,, but feeding gives warmth, to anything,,,,,and in this weather,,,well
  11. im afraid im like this ,,,,too soft with them,, was feeding barley in the mix,, but since the cold spell gave them as much mix as they want,, but their flying out each day

    Hawk Watch

its a well known and proven fact that many racing pigeon rings are found in and around perigrines nests, the rspb regularly clear these rings [these rings have been seen on their own webcams by the public],,, THESE RINGS HAVE BEEN BOUGHT AND PAID FOR,,,, AND OWNED BY THE REGISTERED FANCIERS, THESE RINGS BELONG TO THE REGISTERED FANCIER, COULD THE RSPB BE CHARGED [WITH PROOF] THAT THEY ARE IN FACT STEALING SOMEONES PROPERTY??
