  1. excactky that roly ;D ;D but you put it better than me ;D ;D
  2. as far as i understand, ,,, in the body of a pigeon [and humans] there is" good bugs" and "bad bugs" , they are continuasly fighting each other,, when the" bad bugs" beat the" good bugs " the bird becomes ill,,,, treating with broad spectrum anti_biotics kills all the bugs,,,good and bad ,, then the bird must make up more good bugs [immunity bugs] off course it can make up more " bad bugs" at the same time,,,, but treating with a specific anti-biotic only kills certain" specific bugs" , thats why a vet is recommended in asserting the proper anti biotic for the proper job,, ,,in my opinion many fanciers use, or rather mis-use antibiotics by treating willy nilly,,, even the doctors nowadays are known to be using antibiotics far too much for simple ailments, and not allowing the immunity system "the good bugs" to fight simple ailments, if the immunity system "the good bugs" can beat an ailment "the bad bugs" themselves, the chances of this bird catching this ailment again are less [obviously things are more intricate than this , but this is roughly the gist of it,,,in my opinion
  3. three of g /daughters sir colin,, late breds,, and a grizzle cock ,pics turned out lousy ;D
  4. nearest pics i have to grizzles,, but 5 in loft will try take pics ,,, this pair were given away to pb member ,,,, payment included ;D
  5. my goodnesss that was quick mark ;D ;D ;D,, theres a few now related to this black, crossed with sircolin 2cnd nantes=angus nelson hen [3d nantes ]=louis mithel hen 7th rennes =gilmour bros, etc etc , all many distance birds,,
  6. this was the brother to 7th open nantes,, although i havent got the bird now,, still have progeny
  7. got to agree with both posts,, you never seen the likes of robert cormack,of wynchburgh, [on the rennes result for well over 20 odd years],, pulling flights from a yb for a power moult,!!! to win a yb race, even darkening ybs just to win a yb race ,,, ,, and all above,!!!!, medications etc,, the likes of these fanciers are far fewer found to-day,, ,,,,,i would add to this good post in saying "racing in the front thru exeptional breeding, motivation, fitness, and exceptional experienced know how, and fantastic loft management",,
  8. aye it does lol, ;D,,,,,,, it is usualy used in womans health probs hope the hosp were not hinting anything ;D ;D very cheaply got over the counter in spain,,, prescription here
  9. yip, same as me rob ,, but i think most dont know its an anti-biotic ,,,,,i had this on a drip, in the hosp, when i had septic arthritis, when i saw the drip,, and the name on it,i ,thought i had canker ;D ;D ;D [was nearly asking the doc for a take away ;D ;D ;D],, just for the birds lol
  10. i wouldnt be keen on treating yb,s at that age thomas, as flagyl is a cure, not a preventative,, hard as it may seem, i believe in survival of the fittest especially at this age,, and only strong robust yb,s , without treatment [or so-called ,,propped up yb,s] should be in the yb loft,, only my opinion,, good luck anyway
  11. near enough,,, quite amazing really,, according to a friend vet,, flagyll will cure most,
  12. i remember seeing birds for sale at £40 each,,, at a stall, at b/pool,,,,,, on the sunday when the stalls were packing in,, he had two hens left,, i offered him £20 for the two of them £10 each,, i only needed two hens to even the pairs,, one of these hens bred a 4th fed and a 9th fed,, talk about luck

  21. with due respect and most certainly not wanting to rock the boat,,,,, i had a complete novice come to me , and ask my advice on sick pigeons , after seeing these pigeons i suspected paratyphoid/salmonella. immediately i took one for post portem, which confirmed my suspicion,, the advice i got from this vet was ,,as above,[but baytrill rather than amoxy] this was adhered to as explained by vet,,, now approx two months later these birds are breeding and rearing young birds,, no probs have occurred since , this advice was given by the sacc, [scottish agricultural coledge]
  22. i would consider this most likely
  23. i believe a good family of pigeons are gotten, by trial and elimination, no matter what the so called breed, keep the best ones only, even if its only a few, breed these, then repeat trial and elimination, and if the management is right, you will soon better your family of pigeons , try a few new ones to cross in, each year and work along the same lines
