in my opinion ray, i would tend to feed a good protein mix untill the moult is completely finished to ensure a perfect moult,, then as the nights are darker , the birds exercise less , they tend to put on fat,, i often find barley at this time is a good weight leveler,, but b4 mating would give them a mix for a week or so, again when they are sitting,,they have less exercise so again a lighter diet, but once feeding yb,s , as much protein mix as they will eat, usualy whilst feeding big youngsters, they will eat less maize, i put a couple of spoon fulls baby milk in their water at this time , ,,once yb,s have been separated,, then on to a racing mix that will suit you, i,e depending on the distances you want to go for,, good luck
