  3. beautifull , well reared young birds,, stunning
  4. well done mac 1 ,, best of luck
  5. i dont want to sound alarming devon red, but it does seem strange this is the only pair you have had this bother,, old birds that have this, or carry this para, can look perfect, but can render" dead in the shell" eggs, off course there could well be other reasons, cold , unsettled etc,, but i would tend to make some enquiries from the lender, and try and find out if he has ever had bother with this
  6. brilliant news,,
  7. paratyphoid can produce, fertile, but" dead in the shell"
  8. the cock or hen should not be in-fertile at that age,,,, i would suspect this infertility, is because of a past or present, ailment,, most common for this would be paratyphoid/salmonella,,,,,especially with three rounds
  9. better doing the later of the two first lee ;D ;D ;D ;D
  10. hi mac,, see" sticky" above,, dont think any set time,, but richard vallance and fifer will be trying to keep it to a minimum,, theve worked hard under stressfull conditions, so hopefully be a big improvement to the site good luck to them in their great efforts
  11. good luck wull d,,, it only takes one to win,, all the best

  15. boiling here ;D ;D ;D 4 jerseys on,, 2 pairs long johns ;D woolly hat ;D ;D ;D,,, in this room ;D frrrrreeeezing outside ;D
  16. had to smile at the above post rather politely put ;D,,,,,,,,,,,why is it that when sitting a while? and [as politeley says above ;D],, they will patiently wait on you cleaning the loft, putting fresh grit/minerals and water in,,,,,then the birds will come off their eggs ,, back up to one of these galley pots or drinkers, [usually pick the cleanest one ;D] then kindly drop their" loaded" load ,,,,,right in the dish,, ;D [im sure they do this on purpose ;D] anyway,,when feeding yb,s i find feeding maples , which contain plenty fibre, seems to keep the yb,s droppings firm,,,
  17. best not to disturb them, at least as little as poss are the two eggs in the picture off the same parents/? it looks like one is newer than the other :-/
  18. yes there is a way mamun, , by counting the newly moulted nest flights , ,, a pigeon has 10 primary [main] flight feathers, once a young pigeon has moulted its 5th flight, it then goes into a body moult,,, but this is in this country,, light controls the moult, so i should think the daylight hours would be different in your country, so very difficult to tell,,,, the pigeon in the picture, looks to have had a full body moult, so by a calculated guess, would be nearing its breeding ability
  19. hello mamun,, welcome to pigeon basics i think your pigeon will be old enough to breed at 6 months old,,, the pigeon will tell you when he [or shes ] is ready for breeding.. some pigeons mature quicker than others,, good luck with your breeding
  20. i dont think the cold would kill this bird, and if the bird has just layed ,she must have been healthy enough in that respect,, with all the other birds sounding ok, i would suspect a heart attack, or a poisoning of some sort,
  21. sorry to hear of this pigeon, especially when sitting these eggs,, but as far as other birds rearing three yb,s...., they will attempt to do this, but this is really unnatural, and unfortunately often results in poorly reared yb,s , with the parent birds , taking far too much out themselves,,, sometimes better with a healthy" two" than a poorly reared "three",, even sitting three eggs can often result in , one egg , getting chilled, this may just be the one you want,, good luck

    fret

these fret marks are usual caused by some sort of stress, when the actual flight is piping through its sheath. with young pigeons , in the nest, this can be caused by a variety of reasons, this so-called stress could be anything from a missed feed, a particularly cold night, poor or immature parents in rearing, even a disturbance at night , which could be caused by rodents,, some of the reasons can be unseen or unknown to the owner, but if only a slight fret mark on the odd young bird, i wouldnt worry,,, this can and does happen, but if many are like this, something is seriously wrong, ,,good luck
  23. another page from the gazzette,, ,, from the 1950,s approx,, see the prices of the birds,,,,,and the old breeds
  24. i would agree with the above dosage, this is a great [in my opinion] additive for the pigeon bath,, especially after "race day", this is a very mild disenfectant/cleaner, which will , apart from cleaning the birds, will aid in soothing any knocks, grazes etc they may have taken during liberation, or when racing home,,
  25. please try and keep to the topic i believe many members come on to pigeon basic, for their own personal reasons, i myself have never found the need to do this
