I have to say i have been involved in pigeon racing for a long time now but i can never remember the losses being as bad as they are this year in the Lanarkshire fed

I hope the people that wanted to race down the west are happy that they have wyped out a lot of lofts this year and probably a few people more will chuck it because of the losses too..

But why the fk we went back to Longtown last week after the disaster we had in the 1st race i will never know....

I just shared a post on facebook from the 3rd race last year where we had 65 away away and had 62 in my post and we ended up with 64/65

This year we started training with the same amount of yb's and had approx 40 going into the 3rd race

ps...we will have to look for late breds now for our racing team next year expletive remove

How many latebreds will make up fanciers teams next year , and then be cleaned out again by 200 miles, also the quality going to the nationals will not be up to standard giving more losses. A down ward spiral , it will take years to recover from this season, but will most wait that long?

Everything you have mentioned can have a serious impact on losing pigeons. What we must do , if we want to survive, is attack each and every one of the problems head on.No1 is BOP, we know whats needed here. If that was sorted then we could race your birds in any direction.

bop pure and simple alan and the guys flying east route are not getting it much better m8 but i agree we should never have been back at longtown after the first disaster thats the first bad race ive ever had from appleby still waiting six from 35 pigeon racing is doomed if we all do not get together and sort the problem

In. Today's terms waiting on 6 from 35 is not overly terrible and maybe a few will show up today? :partick-thistle-Crest:

Alan flew longtown Gretna Carlisle Lockerbie etc etc as a member of the midland fed 2004 - 2008 with horrendous returns with young birds the fed at the time had over 200 members but were insistent this was the way to go,if fanciers think racing from these points birds will charge up the 74 into Lanarkshire they are kidding themselves on,we would all love to race straight down the middle but have to do the best for the doos!!!. :partick-thistle-Crest:

i agree but this is a race point which most guys in our fed had never lost a pigeon m8 so something is very wrong and we all know what it is instead of guys greetin to change the route when guys in the east are telling us they are getting hammered to they should be greetin to there club mates to get together and plan to do something about it at club and fed level the guys in outlying areas could almost sort the problem by themselves but choose to keep them locked up instead of having the right birds out all year

the man should not be getting any stick the body of the hall voted for it and even gretna if we could have got into it could not have been any worse than longtown imo

The body of the hall should hold their hands up then... instead of making excuses or abandoning ship.. its basically History repeating itself...for those not with selective memory.

Any North in the wind they will still come through the same route as prior weeks.

Be interesting to hear every ones returns wks 1,2 and 3 ( honest ones)

Longtown1. 21/35 (2 collected from lib)

Longtown2. 14/20 ( 2 collected at lib )

Appleby 25/31 ( last bird at 11:58)

I was always taught ..." the easiest person to fool is yourself"

Many should learn that

Wattie, the body of the hall only voted for racing west because it was the only programme on the table that allowed for the Fed to convoy to three races with the SNFC, if this had been included in the management committee proposal then we would have been east

The mans original proposal was incompetent with SNFC race dates wrong and a number of races where the fed could not get in, it should not have been accepted as a competent proposal by the management committee but it was and was voted in for the above reason, i.e. Convoying with the SNFC

Having then worked out what flying the adopted race programme actually meant the committee then negotiated a revised west route race programme with the proposer to include correct dates to convoy with the SNFC, they then called a second race programme meeting to vote on the original programme which had already been adopted against the negotiated and revised race programme where a straight vote was the only thing allowed and you were not allowed to speak or have any debate on this and where for me this was absolutely wrong and should never have happened

Think we need to return to accepting proposed race points from the body of the the hall on a race by race format at the race programme AGM meeting

Not withstanding the above my view is that the members who proposed racing the west route are all former members of the the Midland Fed who year on year were decimimated racing this route and should have known better, and that's putting it politely, where as such my view is that any flak that is directed at them is fully warranted because they were not thinking what was best for the birds they motivated by what they could gain

Why did your fed go to Longtown

I don't know of course ... But it would be a good thing to look at WHERE the location is of the people who decide. Also those with glib tongues that lead many away of sensible and more realistic thinking and beliefs. JMO of what and why this has so often proven to be the case.

I think all fanciers know what the problem is Alan . And you will never get enough guys to break the law as would make a difference . As long as we keep feeding them at this time of the year and help them train their youngsters nothing will change . Quickest and easiest way and nobody gets into trouble is stop their food supply.
