andy Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 Well done to all who timed and their brave pigeons in this another disaster of a Gold Cup. Me personally 0/7. Missing is a 4th & 31st Open from last years race controllers cock up from Reims which was libbed in poor conditions, fact. My stats from Jan 2016 AGM still stand. A poor start means bad returns. Bedhampton this year, which was stated at the AGM wasn't quite suitable after the 2015 race, we should go to Littlehampton. Again at the next AGM this racepoint isn't suitable either we should go back to Bedhampton! Beggars belief. I will await this years report in anticipation. We've had all these disasters over the last few years and still we carry on with the same scenario. ie: crap transportation, for more than one night in the basket, amateur forecasting and many other, even down to basketting birds, because its a rule only to have 1 handler to a table, (although some marking stations don't listen to that rule). Firstly we need investment, on a gradual scale (Rome wasn't built in a day). Many members have been donating pigeons for a state of the art transporter for the last 20 years! We need to start here. I'm sure their is far more intelligent, experienced and capable people than me and have the freetime in the hierarchy of the SNFC to take this club by the scruff of the neck and make it great again. Maybe one day when I retire from my 90 miles a day, 55 hours per week commute for work I will be able to lend a hand so we can basket a little later than 6pm at night!!
bullcock Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 Well done del, Davy and all who timed. 0/8 here, absolutely gutted doesn't describe it, that's 18 lost between Bedhampton and Alencon, they were not all superstars but a lot were proven bird's, it was highlighted on pb that the band of rain would stop 2nd day birds, but most of the convoy didn't reach the north of England, the million dollar question is why and will we learn from it and make changes or just keep doing the same thing and expect different results? Ypres, here we come, hope it's a good race.

Last year's wusnae much better. Roye wusnae fantastic and some had problems from bedhampton and littlehampton. From this we can rule out racepoints? I think that's fair to say?. Do we now look at the consistent in each race ie transportation (food water air) and control ( weather and communication)? I think the answer will be found there. Also for a nerd like me atmospherics and other outside influences that might affect guidance should also be looked at.
Delboy Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 Well done del, Davy and all who timed. Pigeons coming in on the 3rd day doesn't hide the fact that it was a complete disaster, ONCE AGAIN. To be brutally honest, we are on a slippery slope and have been for several years now. We expect to do the same things every year and have a different outcome How the hell are we meant to replace these birds that have been built up over several years of hard work. Im afraid the pigeon game is amateurish in its approach to everything. Ive lost 5 birds that have scored in the SNFC in the last 2 snfc races. *expletive removed* soul destroying and I feel for everyone that have lost all their tried and tested birds. :emoticon-0179-headbang: Congratulations to the winners and brave pigeons home on the night and through the race In this day and age the SNFC on the website should be publishing at the time of liberation, the digital images of the channel and forecasts for the channel through relevant times, they should publish the line of flight information they have sought and received through France, alongside weather observations at the time of liberation. It does not feel sufficient to hear the pigeons left the liberation site in seconds or receive a backdated (glossed over perception of the happenings retrospectively) I appreciate the request is onerous as well as getting temperature updates etc but in this day and age the information is available. Fanciers themselves must should some blame for the memories are too short , one good race and it all gets forgotten (and as we have more races a season we will get a good one) . You have to earn your respect when things are tough, it is possible to liberate when others don’t if you have information which supports a perceived successful race. Also it stops the internet in it's tracks from the start as it shows how a balanced judgement was made (hopefully it is not as simple as it looked ok when I saw the BBC weather forecast or the transporters needed to be back for Ypres) Good post
bullcock Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 Your right Del, it has taken years to build this team and plenty of time this year getting them ready, this was the strongest team we have ever had and it will be years before we have a team like that again for the gold cup.

GRAHAM MITCHELL Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 I think if the National don't get their act together they could lose a lot of members to the so called Wee National.

Good post
b.massey Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 Just got 1 bk at 1900 Well done Barry mate One for to have another go with You know it's got the heart now
shasha Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 Well done Barry mate One for to have another go with You know it's got the heart nowYeah that true mate.thanks.
jim cowie Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 I am as gutted as anyone else at the outcome of our blue riband event. Two of my best birds were sent and still no sign tonight But I feel the race organisers and convoyes are taking a certain amount of unfair criticism. Nobody disagreed when the race was postponed because of conditions over the weekend. In previous years the birds would of been held over for days before being released and with possibly the same result. It is also clear to me that the convoyers give the birds the best possible care. At the 2015 young bird national the birds went up on the Friday,a first in my memory, and we had a great race. I feel the current organisers are a forward thinking committee and should be given a fair hearing not a lynching. Finally, congratulations to all who timed in and good luck to all for the rest of the season

Finally, congratulations to all who timed in and good luck to all for the rest of the seasonExcuse me did you not see what the forecast was for on the Tuesday expletive remove and another thing they're was mist at Eastbourne visibility poor out onto channel and what about bedhampton aye one of those things eh we will sweep it under carpet don't think so this time
yeboah Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 A Dark Cheq attempted to join the cocks on a couple of occasions tonight but gave up and headed on Then when the youngsters were out a blue went north followed it with binoculars as far as I could Deffo gold cup doos they are barely flying but still going hope they have made someone's night Atb
VMS Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 All this forward thinking was to no avail, the birds should have been race marked as per the proposed schedule end off,Ypres marking tomorrow night so good luck to all that are competing ðŸºðŸºðŸº
yeboah Posted July 6, 2017 Report Posted July 6, 2017 Our Black cock that was reported Tuesday morning on his way home from gold cup was just nw of Stafford having already flown 330 mls He was dead on our racing line the fancier felt he had been racing all morning which would suggest he never crossed the channel till late Monday he had flown bedhampton two weeks previous on the day a 3yo Walkers transport are returning him next Thursday
