bluebell101 Posted September 30, 2016 Report Posted September 30, 2016 GPS tracking rings saw this on another site 525 euros for 5 training rings 5 GPS rings data reading system and software bit dear for average fancier but clubs and feds could trial this
JohnQuinn Posted September 30, 2016 Report Posted September 30, 2016 £10.5k for 100 is a bit rich Johnny even for the biggest organisations and I reckon 100 would be a minimum number to get a picture of what's happening tae them when en route from races. It's the idea we've aw been waiting on but at those prices the wait will continue until the copycats produce a cheaper version.
geordie1234 Posted September 30, 2016 Report Posted September 30, 2016 (edited) The SHU should fund it along with other unions Edited September 30, 2016 by geordie1234
greenlands Posted September 30, 2016 Report Posted September 30, 2016 Why would you want to track your pigeons ?
Kyleakin Lofts Posted September 30, 2016 Report Posted September 30, 2016 The SHU should fund it along with other unionsThe SHU pay a fee to the Confederation so it is funded. The SHU and the other Unions are funded by their members. As John said, around 100 to make it a fair trial at Fed level, so it would still be expensive for the Members if the Unions adopted it.

New technology or items always come at a premium and it is not until the research has been covered financially that the prices drop. I think it will be quite a long wait at those prices. Very few have that sort of money to throw into a peregrine nest.

Roland Posted September 30, 2016 Report Posted September 30, 2016 Well if a Fed bought it ... who would qualify to have it for their pigeon(s) ... We have at least 3 who send over 50 birds each race IN THE CLUB let alone other members... ... which one to be chosen. Even a bigger headache for larger organisations. JMO
gulkie Posted September 30, 2016 Report Posted September 30, 2016 Still waiting for ETS ring prices to drop Andy. The ETS rings go up in price every year not down ??

KIDDON Posted September 30, 2016 Report Posted September 30, 2016 Try and apply for Lottery funding on the grounds of researching the losses in races
JohnQuinn Posted September 30, 2016 Report Posted September 30, 2016 Try and apply for Lottery funding on the grounds of researching the losses in races Ye might just have hit on something there, bound to be funding for research purposes. Anybody an expert on it ?? Maybe the RSPB could help us out;they seem to be able to track their raptors. Aye they've got the cash tae fund it anaw, but me thinks they wid chase us 😡
Kyleakin Lofts Posted September 30, 2016 Report Posted September 30, 2016 Heard someone mention once that they could buy a ..... for £1, but put a label on the bottle with a picture of a pigeon on the label and the cost jumped to £10.There is most times a cheaper method than one specifically directed at pigeon fanciers. For this reason ETS ring prices will not drop. ETS was accepted on the grounds the rings could be read by all systems or some such similar agreement. This has not happened, but I believe the Confederation are attempting to address this. Cost could be the next thing to tackle, but it is better to tackle one thing at a time sometimes.
billt Posted September 30, 2016 Report Posted September 30, 2016 Don't think the RSPB will help, be able to trace every Percy nest in the country.

REDROCKET Posted October 6, 2016 Report Posted October 6, 2016 Think I'll order some just so it puts me into a complete fit of depression on a Saturday as they approach the loft from Grangemouth lol

Guest IB Posted October 7, 2016 Report Posted October 7, 2016 I think I'm not the only one who would like to know where their birds get to on race and training days. GPS sounds good if you can track the bird over the whole journey, real-time. But it only tells a bit of the story. It might show the bird(s) are off the line of flight you expected them to take, but won't tell you why. For that you need 'eyes-on' during the full journey to see whats happening.
C WRIGHT Posted October 8, 2016 Report Posted October 8, 2016 The numbers disapearing wèekly Cant believe they all mising lost or dead between the race point and loft Could possibly give an insight to anotherProblem
