A very good old friend that doesn't have pigeons now had a hen that every year during the winter months she took I'll with whatever ,the best breeding hen he ever had prob responsible for around 30/40 first prize winners . His name is Albert oribine one of the best fanciers ever through here and his hen was called 04 that was her last two digits on her ring , so ye wullie do your best to help her through. There just like us , if you listened to some on here more than half the population in the world would be put down .

So is it worms then?

Seems one says and all go down that line. Cocci, Ecoli etc. etc. Plus a dozen other lesser things could be the reason. Is it mental having a physical show. Fighting an ailment? Just plain up set and stressed.... Y/b sickness?

I know one thing, droppings through out the day and night are going to be different. Weather too makes a difference. Gosh our droppings are as such and we take no notice lol.

I have a youngster with similar problems, Noticed 2 weeks ago she was hunched up as if ready to lay and losing weight fast to the extent of keel bone showing with no muscle and eyes dull yet droppings were firm and she was eating and drinking ok. I gave her 200mgm Flagyl in case it was crop canker then 2 days later 10% Lugols Iodine in a 90% water solution and syringed direct into her crop. She is making a slow recovery but I am confident she will make a full recovery. By the way she was and still is excercising 1 hour daily throughout this illness and treatment.

Do you not think it would be better for the hen to put all her energy into getting better rather than exercise

particularly at this time of year?
