geordie1234 Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 Just found in extreme heat and when doos are working round the loft it seems to rear it's ugly head maybe wrong but i did see lots of panting doos today...my old yeens flew for 5 mins and went back in the loft

Horses for courses old YIN. m8 of mine said that once ,,, birds were on roof 3 streets doon instead of 2 lol no saying your are though

Wiley Posted July 2, 2015 Report Posted July 2, 2015 From experience ive found when a heat spell does hit, some fanciers decide to basket there young birds for the first time, and instead of going very early morning or late evening, they decide to basket about an hour or two before lunch time. Generally on these first tosses the birds make mistakes and it isnt he case of out of the basket then home. This applied with the heat causes the birds stress and dehydration. Then young bird sickness rears its head, and thats been the case for many years in London and Essex area. The first thing people ask when they say they got young bird sickness is "you didnt train em on such a day in those temperatures did you?"

BANDIT Posted July 2, 2015 Report Posted July 2, 2015 I think its mainly stress that brings on youngbird sickness.darkness ,training, feeding light picking arround the gutters and when the temps rise it rears its head......

Was nudging 35C here yesterday and I wouldn't dream of exercising my youngsters in that sort of heat. Looked in at the youngsters a few times yesterday and you could tell by looking at them they were uncomfortable with it.

ghostrider Posted July 2, 2015 Report Posted July 2, 2015 A mate of mine lost a few yesterday 19 I think,went off roaming,one reported last night,he's been and collected it.(injured)He usually lets his youngsters out around midday ..it was to hot I thought4 or 5 back this morning one was a sticker mealy cock I bred him.I've been letting my youngsters out first thing around 5.30 yesterday no training!Today the same flew around for 40 mins,then a flock of trainers heading south.Mine went with them, all arrived back in drips and drabs.last one back around 7.30Saved me taking down the road
