Ive never had a bad toss fae Dunbar Wattie when ive liberated at Shore road. If you go south of that, near the power station then you have problems with percy.

I musta have been at Dunbar 30 times in 4/5 years and never had a bad toss or race

I have tossed from Livingston for several years now coming straight along the M8 . I did on SUnday with no problem and did again yesterday releasing about 11:30 and have 3 missing and 2 without tails.

We were lucky yesterday as we sent all the cocks and got them all although 2 3/4 hrs from 1st till last only sent the cocks for a toss as all bar 1 weren't at Sedgefield

Great post and summarises the situation. We only need to train a few select birds and confine our racers for a week in August to help return the balance of nature.

No doubt there was a few reasons why it wasnt a great toss.

Biggest problem was the change in direction for the Lanarkshire fed transporter, pigeons had to think were they were from 55 miles, the vast majority of the convoy would never have seen that part of the country before and seeing the sea to the north and east of them might well have spooked them, seen it too many times before.

Next week shall be a lot better.

Training is a minefield whether it's 5 miles or 55 miles. I try to do as little as possible.

Been training east for years as getting hit constantly down the m74 so gave that up Gareth has appoint about birds changing direction therefor goin back to they're old lines as a witnessed myself when I started goin east all my birds home in an hour from Dunbar yesterday

Posted

i agree with gareth im just p d because i should have known better but the amount of injured birds from the toss is ott but i also think why train from a place the birds will never be unless they are lost if they ever do see that area there beat peebles kelso otterburn even but ill never be back at dunbar even when we were having good races from there with the mid week i thought we were teaching our birds bad habits by learning them to break farther and farther east when to win we need our birds to fight for the middle but like i say its jmo

Posted

In west wins the pigeons are pushed over towards the east as I have watched my birds coming out east for years and even when we were liberated from places like locharbriggs in west winds they still come out the east.we here in Coatbridge were timing in before the likes off lark hall m/well ect so me personally they are already coming down there we are goin to have bad tosses everywhere and is only goin to get worse because there's not eneogh of us doing what we should be we need to sort it ourself as no one will do it for us not even Gerry Francis lol

Agree about line of flight and bad habits but fanciers have indicated that they wanted 1 good fly midweek from a distance further than peebles, which is great for pigeons that might have been off the road for a week or two, Dunbar is suppose to be saffer than Hawick and Locharbriggs etc Time will tell as the BOP's are everywhere.

your right of course gareth no where safe m8 remember the great tosses we had from coldstream and no one lost a pigeon could put the kettle on for them to
