Kyleakin Lofts Posted May 3, 2014 Report Posted May 3, 2014 Gappy race for us today. 7 / 7 from Bathgate on the North, but all out of race time. 9 / 13 from Otterburn with Glasgow, but 45 mins behind.Grey and cold here all day, but visibility fair to good. I think it was the cold what done it, Some tried to have a sh 1 t on the lander and it stuck to them with the cold.

But come on you are not serious are u , even when it's minus 10 they still sheite all right and it doesn't stick to there feathers .

But come on you are not serious are u , even when it's minus 10 they still sheite all right and it doesn't stick to there feathers . Could be mine aren't feathered well enough, but I have read that the cold can cause the urates to crystalise and this can in turn cause serious internal damage. If they are in the hut and it is -10 outside, they sh 1 t no bother, but ???? I honestly don't know enough. I go by what I read, am told by fanciers whom I respect and then test it for myself to give me a full conviction. I accept I could be well wrong, but for lots of fanciers, something went wrong. Obviously it was ok at the lib end and flight path, but some pigeons hit bother. It may be they were not fit enough or something else, but this is part of the enjoyment. The mystery makes us think, or it should.

Kyleakin Lofts Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 I was up at 6.00 and it was cold at my place. Right now I'd be lucky to see a mile and that's it improved a good bit since this morning. This is just the vagaries of British weather. There is a band of rain falls on a 100yd stretch between my place and Stewarton some days. You can drive in dry weather, albeit overcast, reach this spot, drive through the rain back into dry weather. It is almost like a curtain. There is no way a race controller can allow for this, they have to consider the general area they are flying from and to and general points in between. If the pigeons come across this sort of thing then they have to deviate. It could have snowed at my bit yesterday, but luckily it stayed dry.
