walterboswell59 Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 this year i have split my birds into four teams latebreds yearlings 2yr olds and 3 yr old latebreds and old birds all in different sections with each section being trained and conditioned to bring them to there peak for different races the latebreds for the first four or five to 150 to 18o miles the yearlings will start at 105 miles which is our 3rd race and will get 2 to 3 races the into our fed yearling derby 260 odd miles to set them up for the coast race 360 miles and the two year olds and 3yr old latebreds will get 3 or 4 races then into the inland national with a view of sending the best of them to ypres 450 miles or clermont 521 miles a long with any yearlings that are sticking out my old bird team will get 3 to 4 races then set up and trained after a rest for the gold cup 560 or the 600 mile race while allways looking out for a bird thats telling me its ready for the job i know treating each team separately gives me much more work to do with training and flagging at different times but while im still fit to do it this gives birds that should be able to win or keep me compeditive at every distance club fed and national whether they do or not is another story but keeping them heathy is paramout to my plan so heres hopeing it all comes togethere how do you plan your season or do you not
kirky Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 I take every race one at a time only sending the fitest to each race as thay come up.
Tony C Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 I aim for amals & combines up to 300 miles with my team of w/hood cocks (20), my naturals (6 pair) pick up the baton for the longer races. The early races (April/May) can compromise my aims as we often encounter cold n/easterly winds early doors so these races I play by ear. I have my w/hood cocks sitting 8 days for the first race as I don't want form to hit to early.
paddymac Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 I don't need too much planning Walter as I'm only interested in 3 races just hope when it comes to June I still have a few hopefuls in the race team
TheHigg Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 IVE not got a lot of space or time [work] but will try roundabout for the first 4 races and then let them go together to try and get them ready for the further races with the majority of my birds being sprint to middle distance i will have to stop most of them before the first channel race [ypres] but hopefully have a few crosses for the channel and [maybee] a wee bit further i have got some birds from walter boswell butch cassidy and some eric cannon based pigeons so hopefully in the coming seasons i will be able to try a wee bit further [who knows]
andy Burgess Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 normally have it all planned out , not this year ,they take a back seat now .

frankdooman Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 With a small team I usually have an out line plan for most of the way but it has to be flexible this year a wee bit different with my situation the two boys are on board and would love to get them a few club/ fed wins so a wee tweek is necessary good luck to all not long now

VMS Posted March 8, 2014 Report Posted March 8, 2014 Don't see how anyone can plan, day by day for me
frankdooman Posted March 8, 2014 Report Posted March 8, 2014 Don't see how anyone can plan, day by day for me U can't Vince but u can plan what goes/ starts when and where and depending on the act racing u need to make up your mind how much work is needed for individual birds but as I say the whole thing has to be flexible
andy Posted March 8, 2014 Report Posted March 8, 2014 Only plans I make at the start of the season is to nominate 5 yearlings for the midweek race from 260 miles 3rd week in May. The rest is weather determined what goes and when.

eastcoaster Posted March 8, 2014 Report Posted March 8, 2014 Bop make it impossible to plan anything , the brother had 50 yearlings out and10 older birds yesterday and sparrow hen took his 2 gold cup hopes on the same day , you can under stand how guys give it up .
Smithy1 Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 Without planning you dont have ambitions or goals to attain.Although every plan changes many times throughout the season.
frankdooman Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 Without planning you dont have ambitions or goals to attain.Although every plan changes many times throughout the season. Spot on that's one of the things that will lift your game when something goes wrong wee have to contend with what wee have just now ( and I mean about all the problems BOP etc ) so give up or build a bridge and get over it
moscow master Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 My plan is to win every race I enter and make sure I've done my bit then it's up the the birds and a big chunk of luck unfortunately this never happens but that my plan every year atb folks
Kyleakin Lofts Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 Like you Walter, I have my plan / aims. We never know whether they will come to fruition, but if we don't have then then they certainly will not. As has been said, once the plans are made it becomes the daily exposure to life, or death dependent on BOP etc, whether we achieve them.
racing novice Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 only plan i have is to enjoy my first season of y/b racing and hopefully learn from it so i can improve on it next year.atb everyone
walterboswell59 Posted March 9, 2014 Author Report Posted March 9, 2014 a good old fancier told me years ago dont worry about the birds you lose worry about the birds that get home if you lose a good bird and you have good stock another will come through to take its place sounds hard but its true pigeon racing has changed over the years and im afraid its get tough or get get out
