I was just reading the topic about ets and its pluses & minus thoughts and i was just thinking that position and the so called calculation for over fly needs looked at more than anything, as drag round the coast is a great factor to winning ,well up here in the north fed imo!what do fowk on here think of overfly.

I don't any overfly here in fraserburgh with my loft being the furthest west in the town. As to overfly it doesn't seem to stop Goggs Wilson from Turriff topping the fed

Thats when the wind is coming in from the east ,then yes it does happen and also Gogs has some good doos.

I,m not going to argue but you are using the wind as a excuse you hit the nail on the head goggs has got some class doos with the correct MANAGEMENT and a wee slice o luck noon and then in which we all need jmo

No i am nae makin excuses as i have not got going racing yet ,I am thinking back 15 year ago when i was first in doos and the amount of times that Turriff doos were beat with the time given in overfly to Banff ,so my assumption is wind from west no chance from east is good just my opinion .And yes Gogs is spot on.

flying short or flying long some days will suit you the worst position to be is in the middle neither east or west or short or longest flyer :emoticon-0179-headbang: :emoticon-0179-headbang:

Perhaps you wish to adopt the system in Malta - its the first in the clock that wins - no velocities, no distances - just the time......the furthest fliers just have to have the fastest pigeons to win !!

Only people that spout the rubbish and try to put down any advantages are those in the East, and or great Location. Most with a few brain cells just ignore them and their' stupidity because it insults ones intelligence.

Short to middle distance races then if your at the back of the fed then you will always be kindly measured, i say this as any cross wind at all and pigeons will get pushed of there natural flight path home, now when you add the drag of the doos to this then the pull will be to the center to back of a fed, thus meaning that the fanciers towards the front of the fed will not dominate the result compared to that of members of a fed towards the back. Pigeons even when conditions do not favour them can still win to any part of a federation, but they have to be exceptional to be able to do this.

Have included a diagram, i hope i do not offend anyone as it is not my intention and if i am stating the obvious then please don't take offence. This diagram is just an example and not of any federation in particular.

If only every race was a tail or head wind, then pigeon racing would be that little bit closer to perfection.

Good post Gareth, wish it worked like that in West Cumbria, the birds CAN NOT fly the route they are measured and gives a BIG advantage to members in the West of the Federation/Amal. :animatedpigeons::emoticon-0138-thinking: :emoticon-0138-thinking:

May add that no matter what the conditions are then i am looking to win first open in the federation every week.

Yes Lindsay terrain plays its part in some federations especially in your own area.

I imo! say doos dont fly in a straight line ,they are subject to prevailing winds so there fore when winds blow from the west towards the east in North Fed the birds fly in a ark from race point ,first drop Peterhead area .Now if that being the case Peterhead to Banff, and Peterhead to Turriff are virtualy same distance so therefore overfly given for nothing ,you do have to remember this is my opinion .
