Racing Season Coming To Soon Budgie

Sad news could have enlightened us all

OK its simples my birds are never hungry. I have a hopper which holds 3 cwt of feed ie; Spillars Pellets and are never locked out. They can re-enter the loft take what they want, have a drink and go back out to fly. An electric fence ensures their are no unwelcome visitors and Dazer bird scarer balloons are hung to stop aerial attacks. Friends have told me they have been seen racing a mile East of me and a mile West passing over the loft in a tight batch. They have been doing the skies for the past 5 months and with my luck will stop as soon as I start training.

was going to put a similar post , a partnership in my first club i noticed had them out and trained weeks before the first race ,usually won first 2 club races ,often topping the fed .i asked another club member if i should do this ,he said sure if your ready to pull your hair out at races 3 and 4 etc , cos they never do anything afterwards

Is your good self one half of the meri mac lofts partnership from a good few years ago?

My wee brother Wilson and I were recognised as Merry Mac Lofts as a thank-you to Eddie Newcombe with it being an anagram of Macmerry. We both have marvellous memories of those days and it was a great sadness when Wilson retired from the sport due to severe athritis which stopped his ability to handle them. The late 70s early 80s when the North West Federation had 600-700 members were brilliant for us and winning against such opposition up to 6,500 birds was undeniably fantastic and it is sad they will never return, competing against the likes of T.C.Ogilvie, Jock Reid, Bert Hunter, A&J Ross and many others was a privelage and a feat if you could trump them all on the same day. We knew that we were successful when many people asked what time is the Mackintosh's in.

The only prob for some/ most on here is the national dates are set so if you don't start .or delay the start for 2/3 weeks then the birds are not out far enough to tackle the nationals when they come around , is it not about time the nationals set there dates with the provision that if the weather is far too bad and most Feds delay the start of their season ,the nationals can't put their races back even a week or so to help out , if they don't the birdage will be badly affected any thoughts ?

If all the feds put back their racing the Snfc would`nt be able to go as they use our transporters to ferry the birds .

Too misarable to pay them and there would be no birds to send as we would all be at a similar level distance wise.

I once met your brother while working on a building site in sandihills near Glasgow he was a joiner if my memory is correct the year was 1981 I think the reason I know was that I had timed from a very hard Rennes the next morning and I thought it would be too late to make the result but he said I would get on the result and he was correct.

Was that before or after the Glasgow Infirmary job where he was a shuttering joiner and lost the sight of one eye when somebody threw a stone ? accidentally of course !.

Basically local blood, he mother was 71st sect Rennes the year before and she was 50% Fraser of Eaglesham. Her father was a 1971 cock that flew the channel 5 times for me when I was a teenager and was bred by my school pal, in those days you did not keep many pigeons but the ones you had earned there perch every year they were raced to the bitter end.lol

Surely its up to the individual fancier, if a race comes up and the birds are not ready just dont send them, is that maybe why the some birds are lost( birds not fit or trained properly ) to me there,s to many sheep in this sport, oh big shug is sending 6 so will i if you miss a couple of races so *WHAT* at least my birds are safe in the loft jmo

If the weather does not improve i will probably miss the first 4 races but the powers that be should realise 2 yrars on the trot if this weather is to be the norm put racing back 3-4 weeks. If the weather remains as bad my first race will be Yeovil 168 miles and 4th race Carentan some enjoyment that is. It needs some young blood in the fed to make some changes for the better. I for one wont be one of the sheep but the cost of fuel and corn wont bring new blood into the sport thats without missing out on racing.
