ALF Posted January 10, 2013 Report Posted January 10, 2013 This sounds like a wee take off the JOE MURPHY challenge Lewis. Did you know that over 10 years and maybe 5 birds a year from sections E/F = 50 nominated birds for the Gold cup, not one west pigeon won a prize in the SNFC result.Amazing, when you think that it was all top fanciers nominating a fancied pigeon. The Joe Murphy Challenge was never won in this section and before any coconut thinks about posting something stupid, realise the calibre of these birds/fanciers.Just shows you how hard it is to score in the Gold Cup . Dont mention Joe Murphy or half the country wulnae have anything to do with it
kirky Posted January 10, 2013 Report Posted January 10, 2013 why not open it up to all basics members, shu members that are taking part put up a second bird up that can be activated by paying the entry fee by pb member.

Rooster J. Cogburn Posted January 14, 2013 Author Report Posted January 14, 2013 I’ve spoken David Black on the mobile there (interrupted his holiday lol) and he’s told me how theirs started off and how the prize money has developed since the beginning. It started with 20 invites, one declined and 19 took part. After the success of the first year where 14 of the 19 entries made the race and the 1st and 2nd in the challenge were actually 1st and 2nd in the Open it was decided to open it up to ALL members of the INFC It started with a fee which began as £5 then moved up to £10 and under this format it attracted between 100-200 entries It was then the INFC took it on board- they are sound financially at the moment and for the last couple of years have put up prize money to the tune of £1000. A member who runs a successful business has put sponsorship up for the first 3 birds and pays for the framed photo and diploma and Joe Doheny(the first winner of the Single bird challenge and twice INFC Kings Cup winner) has donated a nice cup to be presented to the winner each season. After these generous donations, the fee was scrapped and the entry is increasing each year. I like the idea of the single bird challenge and feel it would be good publicity for Scottish pigeon racing once it got going. Of course it will take a bit of time to get going and we have to start somewhere. It was for this reason I thought PB would be a good testing ground for it in the 2013 season and if all goes to plan we could launch it through the BHW open to all members in 2014. PB is good as well in as much as those taking part can keep everyone updated on their entry through the season and give some information on their preparation if they feel so inclined. This could be beneficial to some and I’m sure we could all pick up some tips/dos and don’ts along the way. Davie has stressed to me he feels it should be a single bird challenge with no reserves, but this is something we can discuss along with other SBC matters on another thread once we have definite numbers. As for the prizes I was thinking along the lines of a small entry fee and hope to organise a summer young bird sale in conjunction with some sponsorship, with a percentage going to a charity of the members choice or the charity the SNFC chooses to support through the Gold Cup race itself. If we could keep this thread along the lines of a yes or no for now and we can start up a discussion thread once it’s ran its course. These are the name I can pick up as Yeses. The more that take part the better it will be
