This brings back memories of my school days, now a days, there is no deterrent to kids at schools, do you think this would make any difference, if it was reinstated?

I dont think it need the belt at school I have two kids one 4 and the other 18 months and I have never lifted my hand in anger to them, I think the issue with kids now is that they get what they want when they want and are not use to getting told off, I would belt the parents if a kid smashes a window, misbehaves at school etc as they wont be long letting the kids no its wrong to do that, There is ways and means to stop them that has more meaning to them

Yeah I would say it should be brought back when I was 7 years old a teacher jabbed the point of a compass right through my hand, the subsequent blood poisoning and pain never done me any harm,Bring back corporal punishment I say.

haha we used to have competiitons in our class to see who could get the most in a term, but all said n done it was a good deterrent and helped keep and install discipline, i think it should be brought back in schools, it would sort out some of the little gits n their attitudes

Don't think it hurt any of us in the long term and whatever the school did to me with regards to punishment, my parents would always say "serves you right". I can remember Blackboard cleaners (wooden with cloth insert ) being thrown at us kids across the classroom at a velocity that our birds couldn't do. They were the days ?

If you're honest the belt was nae deterrent at a, it was a chance to show off and show up the teacher in front of his class, timing moving your hands apart to co-incide with his swing, so that he ended up beltin his leg instead of you. Most made an effort to be put out there to entertain the rest of the class.

On competitions, when the later 'exclusions' came in and you are removed from class to detention, one of mine bragged he'd been excluded 20 times. Disnae work.

It was this generation who got a whack that raised this generation, some parents think school teachers have to enstill discipline into kids which it's not it is the parents job to teach kids right from wrong teachers are there to educate not take abuse from wee fannies that there parents have dragged up

Got is most days before it was abolished, the problem then it reverted to punishment exercises which in turn if you did not complete you got suspended which was ridicules found myself excluded on several occasions due to not completing these,so for me it was better. But i have 2 children and would not except them receiving the belt.Capitol

punishment on the other hand should be re introduced for child sex offenders.

I'm impressed George, you are absolutely correct, why would any parent expect a school teacher to teach manners and respect for others

I had plenty of beltings from my Father when I was growing up. I know that it does a lot of damage to be brought up with violent parents. When the Old Man was hitting me and my brother I would be thinking that I was getting stronger and one day i would turn the tables and get him back. It was a tall order because my father was a seriously tough man. The first time I tried to have a go my Mother had to rescue me by getting between us. The next time when I was about 16 I shaped up to my Father outside the house. I didn't even see it coming, he hit me flat. Later I joined the Army and and did my para training. The next big confrontation was when I was on leave at the age of 19. This time I was too much for him and we both knew it. And for a time I was like one of those Pit Bulls because all I wanted to do was fight. I didn't need a reason because I used to love the adrenaline rush. When all this madness was going on my Father thought it was great and used to brag about it. Later in my life I realised that the beatings and the hardness of my childhood was entirely wrong and I came to my senses and I came to detest bullies. Something that has stayed with me down the years.

My point is that neither my brother or me have hit our kids. And both of us have brought up our children to respect us and to show good manners at all times. I really do not think there is any need to hit children or women for that matter. My opinion is that there is no need to bully those that are weaker than you are yourself. About the only time I will go off on one these days is if some idiot threatens my wife or daughters and that just does not happen.
