Guest pigeongirl Posted July 4, 2012 Report Posted July 4, 2012 I have a yearling cock flew 265 miles last week. Came home fresh as a daisy, flew out well all week. He is on top of the world calling and dancing for his hen. Would you if he was yours send him back to 268 miles eastbourne with this weekends weather forcast. I am wanting to see how many would or wouldn't. I am basketing tomorrow and can't decide.
JohnQuinn Posted July 4, 2012 Report Posted July 4, 2012 The advice given to me by fanciers FAR BETTER than me was"if you get a yearling Going, keep them going as you or it may never be in that form again" i heeded their advice many times to my benefit so for me Send him back. ATVB with him,

Blue Chequer Pied Posted July 4, 2012 Report Posted July 4, 2012 Going by a famous quote I would send him 'it is a crime to send them when they are not right and an even bigger crime not to send them when they are'
REDCHEQHEN Posted July 4, 2012 Report Posted July 4, 2012 It was an easy race last week For the last 3 years I have not sent my yearlings or Andrezel/Fonteney entrants to Folkestone, but I did this year because it was expected to be an easy race and for most of them it was Will definately send to Eastbourne and in two weeks time they'll all probably go to Lillers as well as they will be getting a long rest after that !
Guest pigeongirl Posted July 4, 2012 Report Posted July 4, 2012 Thanks all for your comments. Much appreciated
cemetary Posted July 4, 2012 Report Posted July 4, 2012 If you decide to send him the way he is reacting, send him with a few quid on him, and hope he turns up trumps, best owe luck with him.
just ask me Posted July 5, 2012 Report Posted July 5, 2012 id keep him flying but remember once there in that sky anything can happen
Roland Posted July 5, 2012 Report Posted July 5, 2012 Best fancier ever told me.... Send him. Same as most good flyer wouldn't hesitate today. After all it's not far, so should be more than fine.
Novice Posted July 5, 2012 Report Posted July 5, 2012 A big yes from me.If he is on form it will be no problem to him and he may never hit this peak again.
Guest pigeongirl Posted July 5, 2012 Report Posted July 5, 2012 Thanks all for you comments. I went into the loft this morning and he was still on his high horse. I handled him and he looked as fit as a fiddle. So after a lot of hums and haas i decided that he must go as he was the best looking and feeling pigeon. So now all i ask is for the weather gods once again to shine and we get a race. Saturday not looking too bad and certainly is an improvement on last week when he finished 5 minutes after a thunderstorm and in torrential rain. Once again thanks and ill update you on whether he kept his performance up or not.
Amanda Posted July 6, 2012 Report Posted July 6, 2012 Wishing you luck Yvonne, im sure he'll do you proud
peter pandy Posted July 6, 2012 Report Posted July 6, 2012 Put him in a basket and leave for 30 minutes. Take him out and handle again, If he handles the same as 30 minutes ago then send him if not put him back in the loft. OMP.
Guest pigeongirl Posted July 8, 2012 Report Posted July 8, 2012 After much deliberation and handling. I decided he was in top form and sent him. But to my dismay he has not made it home as of yet. After moving the birds and the weather change he has not made it as of yet. Hope is fading but as a baby he was out for 2 weeks and came home flown out. Maybe he will make it home and maybe he won't. It would of been a sin to keep him at home in that condition. I should of know his fate when he got put in a hen basket for 30 seconds then removed. But my spirits are still up and i still await his return. I still managed to top the club and fed with my other favourite a black cock which thankfully loves a rainy day. Thanks all for your comments some great advise. Some great birds are missing from yesterday and i am sure some will still make thier way in.

I am sure he will make his way home - we had all our yearling cocks home yesterday (8)but all the yearling hens were missing (3)! 2 turned in this morning though so just the one adrift Congratulations on your win on what turned out to be a testing day

Though he never won you did the right thing sending him and i'm sure he will come good in the seasons ahead, Thanks i am over the moon he is home. He has now bought his box for next year. I am not sending him to the last 2 races. Its been a hard season and he has been to most inland and lillers early in the season. His parents where gifted to me by a really good pigeonman. I always thought he would make something of himself from a young un he has spirit.

All i want now a few more returns from Fontenay with the weather being a lot dryer. I also got my last one back from Maidstone the same dayand one missing from Lillers 1 the day before! (that one was missing over 6 weeks!) they are boxed up in isolation just now 'under observation' I personally have had nothing back from Fontenay (from 3 sent) but there were 3 more back for club members Thursday that I know of, with the decent weather undoubtedly a big help - and a few others have been reported up and down the country - that are injured. I am sure a few more will turn up over the next day or two
Roland Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 Yep, one for next season eh! No need to send again of course. Indeed from reports of racing this season, and the losses, I fear that many will have a depleted team for next season Old birds Mind I can't help but feel that this season has been a boon as too many lofts carry far too much fodder. Yes of course some good and proven birds have been lost, a bridge too far and sent once too often etc. But must be good in the fact that now many will be breeding off of prove birds of homing ability. Next season or two will tell about the racing ability. But I'd wager that racing will have gone up by quite a lot in merit. A far better stndard will be reached. JMO.
