WEENANN1 Posted October 27, 2011 Report Posted October 27, 2011 i dont think winning money has anything to do with it if you speak to some of the older fanceirs they think money is ruining the sport . there is proberly a lot of the older fanceirs that are not interested in the inland nationals but would like to send to the gold cup but understanderly wont pay the 26 quid to join for the one race . if you include the price of joining the snfc and sending 3 doos and the price of fuel to take them through to the marking station you are speaking the guts of 50 quid .imo the way to maybe get more fanceirs to send would be as long as your a member of the shu you can participate with no fee needed to be payed .do this for the gold cup only and put the subcriptions fees at a tenner a head for for membership for all the other races . :emoticon-0138-thinking: Hows the secretary going to get his wages???? im told he gets £18 of the £25 membership for his wages is that right
JADE Posted October 27, 2011 Report Posted October 27, 2011 Just a few points from the various postsThere are not enough birds around capable of flying the gold cup and not enough fanciers willing to have a go. I know for a fact the majority of my club have no interest at all in going to the gold cup.Inland nationals are maybe not what the snfc was formed for but they are obviously what modern fanciers want. Eastbourne has no effect on the gold cup entry (certainly not in my area - the west may be different)Cant believe £26 per YEAR would stop someone joining the snfc. Extra prizemoney? Where does the money come from? Start dipping into the funds and it wont last long. If you want to win cash have confidence and pool your birds and if they are early enough you will win money.

Guest Gareth Rankin Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 So the sec gets 18 quid out of evey 25?The total cost of secretary work done on behalf of the clubs members amounts to 18.5 to 19k. Best paid job in the British isles. JMO

lightning fast Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 Its not about winning money its about enticing the non senders to the race I went to the gold cup for the first time last year with 5 birds, got one back didint enjoy the race, and never sent any to the inlands or any other nats last year, this year ill only be sending to the other nats and giving the gold cup a miss because I dont have the birds to send, I was the only one in my club to send to this race and out of 12 member you would be lucky to get 2-3 going as far as the inland nat! distance men are a minority now im not nocking it but most people dont and wont send there birds to 500+ most stuggle past 300mils
geordie1234 Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 Can certainly see were your coming from

geordie1234 Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 The only reason i am in doo racing is to get to the nationals nothing else
ALF Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 I have now tried the gold cup for the last 3 years huvnae made the result yet but am getting closer but the biggest thrill do far was timing my hen fae tours this year she has been unlucky in the past as I tried her at the gold cup last year and got her at 11am Saturday morning then sent her back to clermont that year and timed her at 8am the next morning but she has given me 3 decent efforts now and I have been over the moon to see her every time none more so than tours this year as I had sat at the loft fae Saturday afternoon till I got her at 2.45pm Sunday but I was that pleased to see her I was jumping up and down like an eajit and the old heart was pounding and I was that pleased to see her I tanned a bottle of Bucky in less than 5 mins tae calm me doom lol .I'll be back At the gold cup next year with a bit of luck and I hope I get another buzz out of it again
johnc Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 as only having yearlings next year they will be raced to the coast and whats left will go to the gold cup the following year as its my ambition to be in the race my only grumble is the snfc program with the races that surround the gold cup they seem to be very close togther and quite a lot in a short space of time , maybe it will just take me time to understand why this is but cant wait for it to come providing i still have some birds left
