With the breeding season well and truly underway, it would be nice to hear how PB members breeding of their 2011 young bird team is progressing.

So, how many youngsters have you got weaned?

How many youngsters are in the nest?

What size of young bird team, do you intend to have?

Thank you in advance for the replieshttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0137-clapping.gif

none weaned as yet but there are about 32 in the nest, we only had 2 clear eggs and that was a pair that laid 5 days after being put together so we consider it an excellent hatch ,most are rung with only 6 more due to be rung tonight and that is all we are having and they should all be split the weekend of the first race and no more hatched after that

Hope to have about 50ish for racing.8 split and a few in the nest,. any doubtfull ones are in the bin its hard enough to win with your very best never mind a dodgy one.No more mr nice guy back o the auld way if in doubt hit it a clout.:angry:

I have really gone over the top this year because I normally rear about 30 youngsters and settle for around 25 to race through. I expect to have about 16/17 left at the end of the year. This year I got carried away after a bad start with the stock birds breaking eggs and fighting like demons. I have 55 parted off and 20 something in the nest. Never mind because I have the space and I will just have to try them and select from there. I will not need many if any young hens for next year and the young cocks will be kept on the basis of which ones proove to be better that my current Widowhood Team. Bearing in mind that some of the adult cocks are preety good at their job the youngsters will have to get stuck in to have any hope of being selected.
