When I talk to other fanciers, most will tell you that they keep too many birds, and they would rather have lesshttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif

so, out of interest, how many birds in total have you in your lofts at present?

do you feel you have more than you want/need?

thank youhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif

Culled what has not met the grade leaving me with 10 stock birds, no old birds and 25 youngsters. 35 in total so more than happy with that. Will purchase 5 or 6 new stock birds to test for next year.

Normally only winter 12 pairs and a couple of spare birds incase of accidents, but at the moment I've got 20 pairs.I don't have stock just racer/breeders so will lend 4 pairs to friends after the moult then just keep 12 cocks and 18 hens, all will race next season.

I currently have 12 widowhood cocks, 12 widowhood hens

12 pair of naturals

9 pair of stock birds (1 hen to come on loan)

and yes, I do believe I have too manyhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif

we have 20 cocks and 17 hens for racing

at the moment 8 stock pairs but 3 pair

are going out on loan to someone trying

to restart, and yes to many so will no be

breeding as many ybs this year

12 pair for racing, 6 pairs of stock and 3 spares just in case!!!

Ideally I would like to be able to house another 6 pair of racers , but think most fanciers tend to keep more stock than needed, but every stock bird purchased is the purchase of another dream "is this one the elusive golden breeder!!"

i'll look for 24 pairs of natural racers and about 5 stock pairs.....but won't get rid of anything to quick. numbers flying out hopefully mean less hawk attacks (more eyes) and if she does strike theres a chance it won't be a 'first teamer'.

Think you should be selling that mate and investing in a couple of pairs of good stock birds :):D
