frank-123 Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 what saiiir gon it is sore (sair gone) only 5 birds will receive a prize in the west section from bourges its a long way but because there was only 55 birds sent the prize ratio is 1 prize for every ten birds sent in your section i hope i have explained that ok I and Guys like Wee Jim Cullen he has not raced all season
ALF Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 no got the auld stagers gareth due to some bad luck with the training, back all guns blazing for clermont hopefully. :) :) Thought aboot maybe sending my old mealy hen to Bourges but she hasnae had any training fae the week of Reims apart from our fed comeback race so i took them all to Dunbar this morning and she and the 2 cocks i am planning to send to Clermont dropped together bang on 2 hrs so she'll be going there with them hopefully
JohnQuinn Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 I've simply no got doos to send that distance just now, i knew at the start of the season i had decisions to make, about where to send my 2yr old doos, By the time the longer races came i was already down to 6, and 3 of them are a waste of a perch! So the 2 longest races were ditched right away, hopefully in 2012, i'll be in a position to compete from all the channel races, here's hoping anyway

midnight_son Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 I sent 2, there was only something like 40 away from Musselburgh. Something needs to be done to revive this race, why are members not supporting it ? Is it the distance alone ? Would we get many more if we dropped back to the Tours/Nantes distance ? Probably not many, Andrezel didn't do much better and it was just the same as distance as Reims give or take a few miles. Would some kind of initative like free birdage make any difference ? Obviously a big sponsorship would be required to fund that type of thing. Going by last years results, over 400 members went to the gold cup but just over 100 to the long race. If those 400 guys get a buzz out of the gold cup surely they would also get a buzz out of the long race, how do we get them to try it ? Why do some members send 5,6,7,8 birds to the gold cup but none to this one ? To me, it's inconceivable to miss a national, i'd rather have 1 at each than a team at one and miss another one. Maybe we need to convince folk that it's not just a race for plodding old 5 and 6 year olds that just dodge up the road in their own time, that it is alright to send 2 and 3 year olds to these races. It shouldn't be thought of as 2-3 day race - i think that puts folk off for a start. 42mph is under 15.5 hours for 650 miles, no reason why there won't be birds on the night or early 2nd morning if we can have an early liberation and a bit of help from the weather. Maybe if members started with that mindset rather than thinking it'll be lunchtime or afternoon 2nd day they'd be more willing to send.

Sent 2 x 4 year olds2 x 3 year olds2 x 2 year olds 3 of the six have won very good positions from National races.

Rooster J. Cogburn Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 You can see an argument for this being the Blue Ribbon event.it would force more fanciers to send their BEST pigeons instead of last chancers or the 2nd string,if this was the case i'd imagine the velocities would be a lot higher and it'd soon lose its 2 or 3 day slog label.I don't think it should be made the gold cup race but if you look at a lot of the Top performance put in from nantes/chenoise/tours etc. they were by birds originally earmarked for the Gold cup but sent to the long one for whatever change in plan/circumstances.
