Guest Vic Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 Les Kilshaw, one of the greatest, fed tick beans on the hopper for years in and out . Dr Rigg , another ace, fed tic beans and sometimes would germinate them to give them the green shoots of the bean, But Dr Rigg always was a great believer in dogtooth maize at the right time. Another good flyer who was a scribe for the BHW in the U.N.Combine area, swore by beans, His name was Ken Everit if I rermember right. So it's BEAN going on for years! ugh! ;D
wilkins Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 i think beans hold 20-25% protein and 45-50% carbs most say a balance should be 15% protein the rest carbs so a mix heavy on beans with barley, wheat and maize fed a little a day is not far off the 15% as most of these grains hold 6-8% protein
Tony C Posted June 28, 2009 Author Report Posted June 28, 2009 well done tony could i ask from how far out from the race tou added the carbs and fats, what was the velocity? 7 days before basketing. Vel 1466
mark Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 Beans are only any good on toast.Barley, mixed with hormaform, redband and peanuts are ideal for 500mls and over and just watch how good they look when they return. i will tell that to my father in law about the beans who had 1st club saintes yesterday 460m won feeding maris bard tic beans and a few tit bits.

Guest Owen Posted September 5, 2009 Report Posted September 5, 2009 One of the top National Flyers near here feeds both barley and tic beans from the hopper. This guy is very unusual because he flies natural. I think he uses Old Hand's pin head oatmeal mix as a tidbit. His lofts are always totally clean. About the only thing he does that is not against modern thinking are his ideas on training. His birds are in the basket every day and they will go South one day and East the next. Personally, I would not touch a bean with a barge pole. And I would not dream of feeding peas after the young birds are 5 weeks old. I will give the moulting birds a low level of peas but I certainly would not give them any significant quantity.

Roland Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 £15 30 tic beans, and £12 90 Maple Peas. (Canadian) Would pay me to take a van out and buy up for the winter I reckon. With fuel it would still work out cheaper.
Roland Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 Well had a word with a regular stockist that is good. After 12 days or so most everything is dropping in price. Current Price are: Maples £ 11 coming down a lot. Tic Beans £7 A great bean Grout (holely) £5 but both are coming down. Wheat £4 Barley (Malting) £5 50 real McCoy though – have a another lot coming in for £3 : 50.
BLACK W F Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 roland my price for barley the best around and top class nowt dont get any cheaper than that
