john cumming Posted July 20, 2019 Report Posted July 20, 2019 Just looking through my book in loft. I lost 3 birds training this year and 4 last year and 2 in 2017 Noted every one was a red cheq or a mealy. Wondering if its just a coinsadence or is there a trend developing John
grdkeith Posted July 20, 2019 Report Posted July 20, 2019 Could be your expletive removed with coloured ones
eastcoaster Posted July 20, 2019 Report Posted July 20, 2019 Was gifted a real well bred red cock from Dave Delea to ad some endurance to my team and bred all reds ,pieds, mealys out the 14 I had I only have 4 left and they have been hit so as much as I like him a lot he will be going else where .
philg50 Posted July 20, 2019 Report Posted July 20, 2019 Same if i have a bonnie mealy i am lucky to get them passed the training ,only doo lost up to now training yes!!Red cheq hen
Joe tyre Posted July 20, 2019 Report Posted July 20, 2019 Don't think the perigans are fussy I've lost a black and 2 DK cheq lol
Kyleakin Lofts Posted July 20, 2019 Report Posted July 20, 2019 Apparently red is a hot colour and shows up in their vision sensors better. I have also heard they target the odd ones out, so if you have one dark one in a flock of blues, apparently it is the easier target. I don't think they are that fussy though. They need to eat and any food will be their target. This time of year is about the worst it gets since they are both hunting and teaching their young how to kill, so up to four where there used to be just one.
paddymac Posted July 20, 2019 Report Posted July 20, 2019 I had bred 5 red ybs this year, lost 4 around the loft within a week and the other was lost during training this week from 20mls.
Joe tyre Posted July 20, 2019 Report Posted July 20, 2019 The perigans love to split the birds first then they will pick ones of that go on there own or in a couple etc they focus on meat not really colour in my opinion but there killing our many birds no matter the colours the *expletive removed*
STB Posted July 20, 2019 Report Posted July 20, 2019 I've lot reds mealies can't say there any diffo from the rest to be honest. Most birds hit this year been chqs not had many races or trainers so hard to say.
Adee1888 Posted July 21, 2019 Report Posted July 21, 2019 12 down from toss at Leven yesterday grizzles and blues chews just let them go and after 2 circles Percy had a go sometimes is it worth it you can’t go anywhere it’s safe it’s time for the shu to stand up and be counted and at least try to do something
Joe tyre Posted July 21, 2019 Report Posted July 21, 2019 Another great toss wae lanarkshire fed today 19/19 all home within 20 Min of each other defo safety in numbers were perigans are involved I think more feds should train young birds even during the racing if possible as it's defo helping the birds and by God do wee need it the way fanciers are are lossing birds training on there own
