Stolen pigeons - Mark Gilbert

 

This weekend someone broke into Mark Gilbert's lofts and stole 20 stock pigeons - if you know anything as to their whereabouts there is a 20k reward to have them returned safe....Mark is understandably gutted so any help would be appreciated - a list of ring numbers below..

i had birds stolen from my race team birds i had 22 birds for racing they stole 18 left me with 4 that was about 5 weeks ago or more i was going to pack them in but there all ive bloody got after having my voice box removed through having throat cancer the birds are my life ill carry on and race the ybs from my stock birds ive about 8 old birds i can race plus some late breds i was not going to put it up on basics i only told a few folk

I feel that this unwanted attention by thieves and crooks has no doubt been driven by the talk of the million pound Pigeon that was in the news recently. Everyman and his dog were talking about that and no doubt this has made a lot of crooks take note. They are thinking wow pigeons are worth big money now and these guys keep them in their garden, sounds too good to be true. The sad thing is though, whoever stole these will most likely struggle to sell them. If they did it will be a fraction of their value (probably less then the £20k reward Mark Gilbert has put up). They’ll end up with some lowlife who thinks they are worth a bomb but who to sell them to? I reckon they’ll slip up, loose lips sink ships and all that. Nobody could nick them and then offer the children for sale without being noticed. Can’t imagine some big rich kingpin is willing to pay through the nose for them just to breed from them to race himself. Reckon it’s a case of somebody nicking them as they’ve been blinded by the possible prices pigeons go for. Done a google search on who’s the top dogs racing just now and hit them all. No doubt a professional gang who are good at their trade. But realistically a very difficult item/s to sell. Smuggling them outside of Europe is a no go as quarantine laws are so strict now. So most likely they’ll be sold to someone outside of the uk but into Europe. Romania would be my guess. I’d say they will be recovered though, some ransom note scenario. £20k to the thieves, mark gets them back. Let’s hope the reality sinks in for the crooks that there’s not much money to be made nicking pigeons and they stay the *expletive removed* away from any other lofts.
