had a lot of slateys out of one line of my family, Had one last season, however thought it was out of Lenny The Lions Family, as i broke out one of his pigeons and paired it to a successful line in our family, and produced a slatey, we do not house no slateys here previous to this, the little slatey topped the fed. Anyhow we bred from the fed winning cocks from this one line this season, resulting in 5 slateys. I know nothing of genetics, but all birds that produced these slateys were blue chequers.

Alf me ole mate im not disputing that, ive had yearlings score at 500 miles in the LNRC. However the pigeons that done it wasnt distance based strains. When i had the Fear Brothers pigeons which were out and out distance they would only start to shine at two year old, same with a few distance strains ive tried jan aardens ect.
-
Peter, in my experience all distance pigeons are late developers, and wont show much if anything until 2 years old

i know when my pigeons are in form when on a friday morning my pigeons only take maize from the grain and nothing else when that happens i am confident that i have done my part of the job right. I've mixed my own grain for quiet a few years now the grain i am experimenting with this year, its 1/3rd maize and i am finding they are flying the skies out at the moment.

A canker tab down the throat and put a good multi vitamin in the water, for three days as well as maples in front of them till dark to get them used to eating large grains. Then garlic and cider vinegar water right up untill training and also no other treatment until then also. I must stress how important it is for young birds to get used to eating large grains it's a must

As soon as you get equal daylight hours but it's weather dependent like today London had 11 hours light so in the beginning of march I will darken

Reminds me of Bigwoods Mach One, raced against this pigeon it was basically unbeatable

If it moults out to be a dark grizzle I can see the logic as most of the family are dark chequers and smokey blues, I've had bronze dark chequers before but to me it doesn't look like bronzing you'd find on the chequers it will be on the darkness so will go through a complete body moult and should show its true colour.

OY, all hens are kept together through the winter prior to pairing all birds that are to be paired are put into individual boxes incase they have gone lesbian for at least 5 days. I should have stated this is there second round both blue pieds in the first round. As I said there is no reds or mealies in the loft and are single penned
-
I'm absolutely stumped, had something similar with my lefebre dhaenens but the hen was 11 years old and with a particular blue cock she threw mosaics but mosaics were in the pedigree so surmised were throw backs but with this one I cannot find anything to trace it back to.

I have pair of young birds in the nest currently, out of two stock pigeons, that are prisoners and single penned, and that I have no reds or mealies In my loft. The dam is a direct Willy Thas being a blue pied hen, and the sire is a Haelterman. X Willy Thas, blue grizzle but there isn't much grizzling in the cock. Both sire and dam have been here for a good few years and bred a number of good birds upto first fed level with different partners. In the nest there is a blue pied cock and a red grizzle hen, I've gone back 4 generations in each no reds or mealies can be found I'm stumped

It depends on how you rear, I suppose? Many of my pairs will gobble peanuts and I fill up there pots twice a day. Peanuts are not cheap. Corn wise is cheap tic beans and maples with a breeding mixture. The cost then goes into exPense with supplementation, however I use norban products and they cost very little and do not need high quantities but in my opinion there the best on the market. However if I purchasing young birds to race 30 quid in my opinion is the most I am willing to pay!

Lol andy my ole china, I wasn't taking offence I said it was daft in the first place. I come along with the idea after listening to Freddy Vandheede where he puts a heating plate under the straw, I do not have heating in the young bird shed so thought about the next best thing
