  1. Is that a yellow or gold ring on its leg? Think it might be one I gave my Dad?

  5. Don't know what went wrong this weekend with the 2 Scottish nationals? But the CSCFC didn't have a great race from Bergerac either. My club went with them in the WOESRC and only 1 man timed in. I actually called the sec on Sat aft to see if they had any away. They were also racing from Messac on Sat with another Fed, which had been held over from Fri due to rain in the Cherbourg peninsula. Who knows maybe the rain was more widespread than anticipated? Tried to look online for historical weather for this date but unable to get any.

I know what you mean.I like most looked at the weather on tv Sat morning, didn't think much about it as it looked like the birds would have been well up the road and miss it by the time it came down & across England. I didn't get to Birmingham till midday due to an accident on m-way,called my Dad when I was waiting to tell him about weather down there. Maybe the rain came across country quicker than expected? I can't say, but it was certainly larger than the band they spoke about on tv, and quite heavy at times. This might explain birds going over Ireland way to go around it?

The band of rain may well explain some of birds not getting home on the day. I drove up from Gloucestershire on Sat to see the race. On the way up I hit the band of rain just south of Birmingham. It didn't clear up until I passed the junction for Nantwitch & north Wales. I know this is the wrong side of the country for the birds, but if it was like this on the East side also?

    Breeding

Jack Curtiss really looked into his breeding, and could tell which lines from certain hens gave better results than others.
  16. OK Thanks for replying. He doesn't have a computor, will tell him to get in touch with secy, or SHU. Good Luck for Friday.
  17. On phone to my Dad today, and he said he doesn't have a distance for this racepoint. Is everyone the same or does everyone have theirs?

    Breeding

Jack Curtiss who wrote a book on George Busschaert, looked at the way he bred his birds, and I think explains why his birds were so successful. Basically. If he had a good racing cock for example he would put it to as many hens as possible, then pair the young from them, half brother x half sister, to increase & retain the winning line from the cock.

    Breeding

Had the same problem a few years ago with a really good bird I was gifted. Never bred any to race at all, infact they seemed a bit soft & dopey, didn't even want to fly. One of his daughters paired to a cock I liked during the season, took a pair off them, and the birds they bred were great. If I knew then what I know now I would have kept all his daughters for breeding from.
