  4. I would take a guess that it was around this time that more fanciers concentrated on the so called sprint strains. This produced more speed, but the tried and tested distance birds became a bit watered down, therefore the birds have changed. Peregrines have increased by an untold amount and primarily are based in the west. I know they have spread since then. The entry from the west decreased due to the peregrine threat, therefore the drag to the east had more effect. The route was changed to the east to avoid the peregrines, so the birds tend to follow the drag easier than breaking from it. This is all pure speculation on my part.
  5. Most lofts are around 6' at the eaves. The birds usually attempt to be on the high perches so they are in the air flow. That could be a part answer to your question, but all lofts have different air flow and that is probably the important factor. The height for the birds perching is probably less important than being sure the area they perch has good air flow.
  6. I bought an entry in the Scottish one some years back, but they had lots of problems. This year I sent to Pixels and Eamon took care in quarantine, training etc. He had good returns from all races after a blimp in training at the start. Very well run. I also believe the Barcelona loft is well run.
  7. Is that a German Wire haired Pointer?
  8. Well done Owen.
  9. The farmer is cutting the grass at the moment and bringing in his silage. As is usual the crows and seagulls are all about the place catching whatever. I heard the buzzards meowing and decided to count them. There were at least 10 all at varying heights. Some up really high others down in the fields.

  11. Good post.
  12. Scott, you don't need separate sections, but most do keep them in separate sections. Stock birds are often expensive prisoners and as such require a secure section to prevent escapes. OB racers can be bred from, but because of losses it could be difficult maintaining any type of family / strain. YB's require different treatment from the OB's, so again a separate section can assist. I am sure more experienced fanciers will be able to enlighten you further.
  13. Well done Alf.

  15. Ayrshire North Road Federation last night voted to go ahead with their new transporter. The accepted design will have 50 crates, 25 per side,5 in length and height. They will have drinkers on both sides of the length of the crates. The crates will take 20 pigeons comfortably. There will be a ventilated curtain fitted and the water system will be pumped. A great move forward for this Federation. Obviously this is going to cost money and as part of the fundraising a Race Night is being organised in February and a Quiz Night / Moot is organised for November 16th in Drongan Community Centre. The panel consists of Mark Gilbert, Chris Gordon and Gerry Clements. Fish Supper type food will be supplied on the night. I understand 3 birds have been donated by the panellists and I expect bidding to be brisk. The tickets cost £10-00.

  20. It means there are no wild birds left to eat them, poor blighters. Something must be happening to the wild birds.
  21. It's not on site Alan, it is a club sale. I am just intimating it. Having said that donations will be received and attendance is welcomed.
