  1. That's easy, I'm sure everyone will agree today is someday, oneday, birthday, Monday, weekday.
  2. Good John!!! Let's get it on. As has been pointed out, there are difficulties to be overcome, but if anything is worth doing, it is very rarely easy. Keep it simple. For this year, 2014, the first thing to be sorted must be joint convoying. This will no doubt have several difficulties to overcome, but if the Officials get their teeth into it, I am sure success is just down the road a little bit.
  3. Thanks folks. The lassies and g/kids were over on Saturday and we had a lovely meal cooked by my better half. Nice cards, some handmade and a few Toblerones with some golden nectar to wash them down. This morning, the wife and kids gave me their cards and pressies, so more golden nectar. Oh how I love birthday time. Now all I need is some quiet time to enjoy the water of life.
  4. This is always the problem. Just my back yard please, don't want any other big boys in here. Wish pigeon fanciers would think about the pigeons.
  5. I never knew you had 2 sons Barry and being a Mensa member, I didn't realise that Colin was my dad!!! Funny old things are statements of so called truth.
  6. Well done John and all the other head of Feds. This has been spoken about before, so it is good to see some progress. I understand that this progress may only result in proposals being put to the Feds, but if it reaches that stage then it has gone further than all the previous "gum banging". I would also hope that the Federation Members would accept the proposal and make this happen.
  7. Well done lads getting them back.
  8. Well done Derek. Not often you hear about them managing back after the third or fourth day.
  9. Very surprising, but nevertheless, welcome news. As George says, I hope it across all the suppliers and not just a few. Sod's law, mine won't reduce prices.
  10. George, the syringes I use are 2.5ml ones. I also have a 6ml one and the measured gradients are also suitable on that. The benefit of the broader syringe is that it decreases the pressure required to move the vaccine. Think of plumbing and the pressure increases when your flow goes from 22mm to 15mm, so the reverse is the effect here. I was told this by a nurse, the syringe info, that is. The needles supplied with the Nobilis will fit either syringe.
  11. George, buy yourself wider syringes. Keep it in your pocket or somewhere warm in the cold weather when using it because the cold does make it thicker, also keep giving it a shake. I'll check the syringe size later for you.
  12. We started a Social section this year to promote the Lerwick race and intend having a presentation night for it. Hopefully it will catch on. We hope to run a moot on the same evening.
  13. Walter, try to find a fairly experienced trusty newer start who would be glad of your birds. If the correct fancier / fanciers are to be found, loan the birds to them on the understanding that the YB's are shared for the full term of the loan. This provides the double benefit that you still have YB's from them and the newer starter gets a lift from you for his efforts.
  14. Morning all.
  15. Rab, I was worried that would be all it made at our sale, so I insisted they all start at £10. The fact that your one was one of the top three pleased me. It may have been the top, but I honestly cannot remember.
  16. Happy birthday guys.

  18. Don't race YB's.
  19. Birds used to keep coming for days and weeks in times past, but it doesn't seem to happen now. I appreciate there are denser populations of peregrines now, but if the birds have been fed to return, but only just, then if they hit problems they are finished. They just don't have the energy to rise again, if they haven't already flown themselves to death. It is supremely difficult here in the west, except for fanciers of Derek Hay's calibre, so for me as a beginner it is slowly slowly catchee monkey. Rab, STB, would say all my pigeons are monkeys right enough. :emoticon-0140-rofl:
  20. Lost too many, didn't race the full programme, but have 8 left, 5 of which done what I asked, 1 injured so stopped early, 1 worked back from its final race so will keep an eye on its performances next year and 1 back after entering 2 lofts so mega black mark for it. Not as good as last season, but almost started over again this season so hope for better things next year.
  21. Happy birthday lads.
  22. Welcome to the site Frank.
  23. I am a beginner with no authority on this matter whatsoever, but it appears to me that you can feed for speed (modern mixes) and suffer heavy losses or feed for stamina (old style), be a bit later , but have better returns. The birds have more in the tank. Is it a case that the modern scientific mixes do not take account of our diverse weather and geography? When the birds hit problems whether weather originated or caused by BOP avoidance, they have nothing left in the tank to get themselves home?
