  1. This would bring all lofts into line in future that only the Benzing units will be able to be used.
  2. Close Roly, Can ye nae plant ony an grow yer ain? Is that what you were trying for?
  3. Good morning all.
  4. Well done Paul. Bet that gift made the pain feel worthwhile.
  5. The first units were given out in 2014 and the east coast, Lothians were covered first. More units were acquired and calibrated and then issued. It appears that Ayrshire have been sitting on three units for nearly a year. Davy, the intention was for racing season 2016, but it is not the fault of the federations that have not received a unit. I think the case for individual members was slightly different, in that they had to contact the SHU who would then put them in touch with the unit operator.
  6. It is a form of line breeding. The easiest line to follow is the male line, it goes direct from sire to son. Female line breeding is a bit more complicated. If you really want to get into it read Old Hand's book, The Strain Makers. He lays out the genetic connections in that work and it is timeless, in that the rules of genetics have not changed and I don't expect Mendel will be proven incorrect. While the lines of inheritance are laid out, the variations within the genes transmitted are tremendous, that's why it is so chancy.
  7. I think the cost would be prohibitive, but as Tony says once the pigeons are out the loft there are too many unknowns for Insurance Companies to take the risk. Even with medical cover for dogs, preventatives are not covered, so again hardly worthwhile for the pigeons. Perhaps captive stock of great value would be worthwhile considering.
  8. Get them to contact Linda so she is able to sort it out.
  9. Good morning all.
  10. Yes, but the North Road members that don't race SNFC would all be in the same boat. The North Road that do race SNFC would need accurate measurements for the SNFC races or it could cost them places. For that reason, I would attempt to prioritise them, if the need arises. At this stage I am very much in the dark as to when I will actually receive my unit. I have to measure 59 lofts and at this stage only have 3 month to so do, our season starts in May. 20 lofts a month doesn't sound a lot, but I do have other calls on my time and some lofts are well spread out. It may not be possible to cover too many in the one day.
  11. If Alasdair Gibson was given your details, you will be one of the few he has to finish. If not you will have to contact Linda at the office to let her know you still need done. Once I get my unit, I'll add you to my list if she forwards your details to me.
  12. Happy birthday. Have a hoolie.
  13. Great offer. Well done.
  14. Ayrshire have had three units since March 2015, surely they must be nearly finished? I think at the October meeting there were only around 5 Feds to be done. I'm waiting on my unit, but it looks like ANR Fed will have to scramble about to have it completed on time. Just need to try and cover the SNFC flying members first.
  15. John, are you an SHU member and do you race with the SNFC. I have to presume that if you race with the SNFC you have to be a SHU member, so perhaps you are an individual member independent of any SHU Club or Fed. The SHU have indicated this requirement to all their individual members and stated the onus is on you to be measured. They will help in all ways they can. Once the Feds are completed they were sure some individual members would be missed and this may be why the SNFC are now intimating the requirement as well.
  16. The SHU is the governing body. It was a SHU directive that all measurements be redone using the Benzing system. The SNFC are only intimating this to allow all their members the opportunity to ensure that they are measured. The measurements are being done at Fed level by the SHU appointed Delegates. Some individual members have not given their information to the Feds and for that reason may not have been done by the Fed reps. Some individual members are members of the SNFC, but not any other Club. The SNFC are only attempting to inform all their members. I mentioned the Feds because this is the method by which the operation is being progressed.
  17. Stevie, Solway are done. Your Garmin measurements were checked against the Benzing and accepted as accurate. In fact, I think NW may have fell into this category as well. The Benzing units are supplied by the SHU and have to be their approved and calibrated unit that is used.
  18. I think most Feds are done. Last I heard, Ayrshire had 3 units March 2015, so they should be about finished. Renfrewshire had a unit and Alasdair only has a couple to do, so Ayrshire North should be receiving a unit from one of them. NE was nearly finished and their unit was going to the far north, Highlands and Islands and I think Fife's unit was going to NW. Not sure if SW has been done, but if not probably an Ayrshire unit for them. Personally, I don't think it will be done in time. I would suggest we are behind schedule and a revised date for 2017 may be required.
  19. Good morning all.
  20. Welcome to the site.
  21. I love that time when the shells break open, the yellow fluffies are there and you just wonder how they will turn out.
  22. Haggis on the menu here as well. Yummy.
