  1. Hi James, Some think it's a good system and others not so good for many different reasons. Each to his own. If your working on race day, or have any difficulty in clocking, then it has got to be beneficial to you. If your like me and love to clock the birds in after watching them come, then the orthodox syetem suits. There is also the cost factor. There are many arguments for and against but you will find elsewhere on the forum, a lengthy debate on ETS. Make your own mind up after reading through the comments.
  2. Clockman and Jimmy, Your last two posts had me falling off my chair with laughter. I think you both want seeing too. Lots and Lots of Laughs.

    Training YBs

How's training going folks, ? has everything settled down ? I have had 6 tosses this week, ( don't start until 29th July ) and going well even in the heat. Next week twice a day. Do you still train your youngsters when racing starts.?
  4. Sorry, RedCheqHen, Got so many women on my mind, one name is as good as another. LOL. I STILL wish you good luck in your coming 380 miler.
  5. Will be interesting to know your results Rose. Good luck anyway.
  6. My four arrived at 11:45am today after being collected after 4pm yesterday. The driver apologised for being late but the guy that originally picked the shipment up, read the postcode wrong. It was read as ct4 instead of ct14. Minor mistake but delays the delivery in weather like this. There four healthy babies and look fine, have just dipped their heads for a drink.
  7. Chris, There is another thread posted on the same thing, with a lot of interesting comments.
  8. I think every time now that you make arrangements through Amtrax, your'e keeping your fingers crossed that nothing happens that will effect the welfare of the birds. I am having four collected today so will let you know tommorrow how it went.

    Dropped Wing

Hi Folks, Opininons on this please. I had a good pigeon come home on the Saturday, Sunday I noticed that one wing had dropped, no sign of a knock. This was three weeks ago, wing still dropped, although exercising well. Will he ever be the same pigeon as he was.?

    Question

Suggest you don't move them to a new loft. Unless your'e VERY lucky, the parent birds will desert them. If your'e going on holiday, you will have to forfeit the eggs by moving the parents to their new loft. If your'e going away for two weeks or more, by the time you get back old hen will be on the verge of laying or will have layed again.

    Help Amtrak

Paulo, Listening to other comments/remarks about transporting our pigeons, Phantom Flyer sounds very reliable as a courier for racing pigeons, depending on the area you live in. I think you may be OK.

    WHY?

Such is the downfall of pursuing our hobby on allotments. Poor, poor pigeons, so sorry for you and the other boys Johnny. When and if there caught, I suppose they will get community service " how sweet ". mark their card because your turn will come, in fact make sure it does.
  22. Hi Mobster, Through the summer months racing, my bath is in front of my birds all the time up until Thursday evening and I leave it up to them as to when they want a dip. In the winter months, maybe once a month. What suprises me is that no matter HOW COLD it is in the winter, when the birds are ready they will dive into freezing water. My wife keeps Canary's and they are just the same.
  23. Hi Leszek, Welcome to the forum. I am close to you as well. As other new starters have been advised by members on here, put a few " feelers " out with the neighbours before doing anything drastic and causing yourself problems before you start. There is nothing worse than an awkward or awkward neighbours.
  24. Mobster, There is a previous post on babies milk. I had never heard of youngsters being reared that way or raced that way so I tried the first round rearing on it. Personally it didn't do anything for me that made my eyes pop out of my head and claim that the youngsters were any better looking or better reared than any others. I reverted back to feeding Beans, Barley, Pellets in equal amounts on their own, with vits/min. ( cheaper as well ) Lovely youngsters and what I have found is that you don't rear youngsters that are fat or baggy at the back end. I do know though that some other users of this forum value babies milk.
  25. Matthew, You will find in this hobby, there are more downs than ups. The ups you talk about forever, the downs will always be remembered but you get over them and come back for more. I'm sure you'll have more good pigeons.
