  1. Deal, 7:10, Light grey skies, very light WSW wind, good visiblity.
  2. Madas, If it is PP the swelling and soreness, will turn into crustations around the beak, eyes and head and also down their throats. There is a product ( sorry can't remember it's name but I'm sure that there are a few of the guys on here that can,) that you can paint on the infection. I think if I remember right it took some ten weeks to clear from my friends loft. A nasty looking ailment and one that must inflict extreme discomfort to the bird. I think one of the causes is over crowding, persistant fighting amongst the birds where they've no room to escape and inflicting injuries and open wounds to the eyes, beak, etc, inviting the infection to kick in.. I havn't seen any sign of it for 15 years. When I vaccinate, I always include the Pigeon Pox vaccine as well, saves any heartache because I've seen it in full flow..
  3. It could be the start of Pigeon Pox. It's not the end of the world should they catch it, although it dosn't look very nice. Let it run it's course through the loft and those that catch it ( should it be that of course, ) will be immune to any future outbreaks.

    LOSSES ?

I knew a fancier who EVERY year would train his youngsters late evening to GUARANTEE them a night out. Don't think it hurt them. When the race proper arrived if they went off line, they would be there the next morning.

Craig, Read my pm to you, they are just a blend of all the past champions that invaded our town of Deal many years ago.
  6. Matthew, No one can complain about that loft setup, credit to you and the pigeon fancy.

    500 milers

The best thing about that race Tony, as you know is the holiday. Don't get to see too many pigeons but the crack and company is great.
  8. A very useful tool Mick. Thanks.

Sean, I believe the same as Matthew. We don't train our pigeons to find their way home, they either know it or they don't. We train to educate and get/keep them fit. Now my youngsters go twice a day to 18 miles and I am very reluctant to train them any farther. Now 18 miles takes 25/30 minutes or less. In total, thats less than 60 minutes a day exercise. That shouldn't harm any pigeon and by training twice a day, they get to know every blade of grass on the final countdown to the loft. As I've said before, they don't get fed up with the basket, THEY GET USED TO IT. In training twice a day any that show any signs of weakness, shouldn't be there.

Thanks People, Yes I'm pleased with the birds, the pied cock (Rapido Busschaert ) I'm holding is a Fed Topper from last year and myself and good friend Tony C are going to work a couple of youngsters from him this season for the first time, to try em' out and see if the old man passes down his genes. We'll see.
  11. Ray, As you know, my Secretary is the Fed Sec and she has heard nothing YET but it may be taking a little time to get through to her although if it is the case that these sites are cancelled, I would of thought she would have been the first to know.
  12. Yes a very well done to you winners. Nice to hear.

    LOSSES ?

Had a 25 miler this morning, let go at 8:00, tucked up at 8:35. This heat will kill em' if you're midday training. I think ( if you can ) you should either train them early morning or 6pm---ish. It's certainly suiting mine at the minute.
  16. THE PLANTS WORKED THEN ?

    LOSSES ?

Am training 33 babies and going well, ( never had as many ) I think breeding from every pigeon, just to make the numbers up. MUST breed only from your best and proven/consistent pigeons. Some fanciers I know, make a diary of the position the youngsters (and old birds) arrive at the loft during racing. At the end of the season, if they've not arrived home in the first THREE throughout the season, thay are not kept. May only have a few birds at the end of it all but you've got your best. Perhaps ETS could be very handy here in your calculations.
  18. Hi REDCHEQHEN, My good luck wishes didn't go amiss then ( ROSE ) LOL. Congrats. A Tiger Woods of the pigeon world.

    Wing stamps

We have the same set up Shadow but it's down to the individual to get it done whether it be a personal ID or a club ID. Failing them doing that, the club is then held responsible. There are too many pigeons being found without a contact No. I think a rule should be brought in that if a pigeon is reported through the RPRA through a lack of ID, the RPRA should inform the club secretary and suspend the whole club for the following weeks race. I wonder how many would be sent without ID then.!!

    Wing stamps

Already I have one baby in my loft rubbered up and not stamped. On this forum most of us have stressed the need for a form of I.D for our pigeons but there is still an awful lot out there ignoring the RPRA rule. I am going to phone the RPRA to get this baby back home. There's an awful lot of people out there wanting their pigeons back and do things by the book but never hear about them.
