  1. How lucky you are to be supporting those teams, I support EWHMATS ( to embarrased even to say it.) Work it out for yourselves
  2. Some years ago, playing " catch up, " my youngsters were behind everyone else's and although they were flying around home, they were not "ranging". Because they were behind, I took 16, two miles from home with a clear view of local landmark (a water tower ) and let em' go. Lost 11. Lesson learned from that, never again will youngsters be trained unless I see em' ranging, even if I miss a race or two.

    speckled

Having met " Specks " twice, ( the second time she gave me an ear bashing,) I can understand how she feels, she's very genuine and no matter what others might say, when you attach yourself to something, it becomes part of the family and losing it hurts.. Sad news Tracy.

    ETS

Bruno, Just yesterday I was fortunate enough to have an ETS system bought for me and OK I'm sure your'e right in saying that clubs can apply for grants with possibly a favourable outcome but regarding your comments on cost not being an issue, I think it will ALWAYS be an issue to those pigeon people ( and I'm sure there are quite a few ) who genuinely can't afford the luxurys of life and I think ETS is a luxury. People just hav'nt got the cash to throw about and should they try to keep up with the Jones's other things begin to suffer. That of course is only my opinion.
  5. Happy Birthday Speedbird, enjoy your day.

    21st MARCH

Thankyou friends for your well wishes. Had a lovely day g/kids a plenty round the tea table eating the spendid spread my good lady wife put on and drinking every bottle of soft drink in sight and away home happy. Funny how at 16 years of age ( in our time ) we couldn't wait to be 18 and now from the age of 60 I've never asked for a pensioners meal and havn't got my bus pass. Funny thing life. Goodnight my friends.

    wind turbine

Heard some 3/4mths ago that they will be siting something like 60 wind turbines in the channel off the North East Coast here in Kent. Could have a devastating effect on the birds crossing the channel.
  9. Rockinrick, hope you're OK and up and about soon, Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

    CAROPHYL RED

Thought it was a colour feed for Canaries.
  11. Thanks all, Will let my friend in Barnsley know your thoughts and experiences with both the ornaments and CD.
  12. Thanks guys
  13. Hi knowledgeable forum fanciers, A fancier friend of mine from Barnsley has just suffered a hawk attack and has asked me where can the very large garden owls be bought. Any suggestions please. ?
  14. Hi Paul 1, I think the right advice is to put a dummy egg in the nest but I think one bit of VERY GOOD ADVICE I was given quite a few years ago was that after the birds had safely paired up, REMOVE the fronts of the nestboxes completely so that should a stray cock or hen venture in there, they could escape without perhaps fighting and breaking the eggs.
  15. What is ythe longest time you know of a pigeon that had been raced, missing.? I can remember my dad sending a Dk Pd C ( named Seagull ) to France and not getting him. Eighteen months later, looking out of the window, he saw this cock dive straight through the open doors into his old nestbox.
  16. Went to let the birds out this morning and found one of last years youngsters I had raced and lost, sitting in the loft and still rubbered up. Where do the go ?

    Can Anyone ?

Hi PP, I understand what you're saying but prior to ETS arriving, I thought we were all on an equal footing being down to the individual. I hate to think my pigeon has arrived and good enough to take the red card and through my clumsiness ( as was the case last year ) in dropping the rubber cost a 2yr old cock a 1st Fed and that hurt. To think of all the work I'd put in getting him right and him to put his effort in to win it. I do of course understand where you're coming from, it is down to the individual.

    Can Anyone ?

Bruno, I, like you, have hammer and nails ready and have in my mind a picture of how I expect it to look. I need to the know the sizes because I intend to sandwich the pad in between two pieces of wood to stop the actual pad getting soiled. The two pieces of wood will be permanently fixed to a sliding door INSIDE the shed where my widowers will land and time in. I can slide the pad in and out when needed.
  19. Hi Ben, Really don't know how many you would need but my friend swears by them stuck on his loft roof. If it was me, I would place one say every 4' and staggered across the length and width of your shed top. I suppose 16 sounds about right. Wish you luck with whatever way you turn.

    Can Anyone ?

Shadow, Exactly that, what is the point of dashing about catching your pigeon, possibly frightening it to the extent that it won't trap again that year, when you can adapt your loft so that you could perhaps sit back watch your bird drop in and register it's time.

    Can Anyone ?

Hi Fifer, Amongst many other topics on here, if you remember there was a forum vote for opinions for or against ETS. That is when I cast my "no " vote because of it's expense and the thrill of actually timing your bird in.

    Can Anyone ?

Can anyone give me the EXACT overall size of a Unikon ETS pad. I would like the length, depth and thickness please. Seems it's here. I was a "no" voter ( because of the cost and thrill of catching the pigeon ) but am not going to bury my head in the sand. I shall just cut down on pigeons kept and only breed from the very best, maybe 20 youngsters. I'm certainly not going to give up the sport but I can see a few who may. Family arguments looming. ?
  23. Ben, I don't personally know if this works but I have a fancier friend in Norwich that has a high dense tree population directly behind his loft. He was suffering hawk attacks and has, some three months ago, STUCK a number of CDs ( just spread them out ) on his loft top and he tells me, he has NEVER had another strike since doing it. His lofts must be 16' long and he has about 10 CDs covering them.
  24. 14TH APRIL, KENT COSMOPOLITAN FED. LITTLEHAMPTON 98MLS.
  25. At the age of fifteen my dad let me have my own 8' x 6' loft at the top of the garden. I caught a 6yr old Belgian Mealy C and a 4yr old Bl H that had come in to us flying the National. She was from the Cotswolds and the owner let me keep her. I paired them both together and they bred a beautiful BL WT FLT Hen. Never forget my first race from Chichester 98mls when I saw her tramming towards the shed so fast, I could hardly keep track of her. At the club that night, it turned out she'd won the race and later on in the week, I was also told she'd topped the Fed. Those were the times when there was 4/500 pigeons going from the club. The members threatened that if I did it two weeks on the trot, they would barr me. You gussed it, I DID'NT.
