  1. I think the Buttermilk system as explained by the Boschend Flyers supposedly not only assists the darkness youngsters and natural pigeons with their moult but also gets the late breds through it as well. I'm giving it a whirl at this present time so we will see what happens.

    How Long

Hi All, How long would corn last in a sealed container. ? I'm thinking of getting my racing corn now for next season, can any of you see any problem with that ? I would get enough to last me until next Sept.
  3. I also found with Layers Pellets ( don't know about any others ) that the birds do have to be a little on the hungry side before eating them and getting used to them but once they do, they eat them as readily as any other corn but certainly not to be fed pellets alone.
  4. For at least five years after visiting John Crowder and seeing the condition of his pigeons, I have fed my stock birds all year round and my racers through the winter, on the following mix. 2 parts Beans, I part Barley and 1 part Chicken Layers Pellets. Not seen anyones pigeons look better and the youngsters they rear are second to none. The added bonus to this of course, is that you can mix up two hundred weight for less than £20.
  5. Viking Hotel. Entertainment execellent. Food above average.
  6. Lovely morning here in Deal, no wind, clear skies, hopefully a good race day.

    LIBS 25/08/07

Kent Cosmo up at 8am from Littlehampton, no wind. 133mls to me.
  8. Mick, Good products and well made. Only live a few miles from R V Woodcraft and have been to their workshop several times, good gear. If you want something of a special design, it's no trouble for them.
  9. Heavy skies here in Deal with a SSW wind. We are at Littlehampton so are hoping to get them away early to avoid what's been forecast for later.
  10. Kent Cosmo at Littlehampton 88mls. Dosn't look too clever for the weekend so the head of experience may have to come into play.
  11. I suppose it's like anything else Tony, when something new and different first comes onto the market, the price is at it's highest. You just feel as though you've been coned when cheaper versions come out and just as reliable. No matter what system you have, if the club officials are not competant in it's use or are not willing to use it, you might just as well leave it in the box. If a fancier is disabled however, then I think that could be a different issue.
  12. I've got the Benzing M1 system but havn't used it yet. I see for season 2008 there offering a Benzing Express G2 at £279 and throwing in an Antenna free. The M1 is expensive. I don't know if it's the best but I certainly think it's the dearest. If buying again, I would look elsewhere because I feel other cheaper systems can be equally as good. Perhaps I would go for the Unikon system.

    Pigeons

I've got her again Thunderboult and someone is doing a day trip to France next week so she'll be going. Must give her every assistance, after all, we get enough flak about not trying to get them home.

    Pigeons

Never cease to amaze me. I received a phone call from a guy that works in a carpet shop and is a non fancier. He said that there was a pigeon sat on his front door step and would I be kind enough to go down and try and catch it. This I did. It was a Mealy Pied hen from France and 2yr old. I took her home and fed and watered her for 5 days and yesterday morning she was wanting to get out so I sent her on a 25ml training toss and let her go on her own. This morning as I'm sure you've guessed, I got another phone call from the same guy and she was sat back on the SAME STEP !!!!!!!! If I'd of bought that pigeon and she'd have got out, I bet you I would never have seen her again. Pigeons !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Safflower or Sunflower?

Remember reading an "Old Hand" article some years ago saying that whilst he was in hospital he peeled Sunflower seeds and fed the centres to his pigeon in preparing him for a 5oo miler. Needless to say he entered the bird and claimed the bacon. I think then, there must be something in what these people say. remember they are doing the hard work in proving these " snippets" so that you can take the short cut. You could do a lot worse than listen to these very experienced fanciers. Most of em' on here.

    Close!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. I know all ailments of similar description are not the same but I had a friend who's pigeons covered the shed in watery droppings. I suggested to him that it was Coccidiosis because his pigeons were drinking excessively. He didn't listen to my advice and lost over half his team. He THEN took a couple to the Vet verdict ? Coccidiosis. I suggest ( like Jimmy ) that you must have em' looked at.

Kent Cosmopolitan Fed up at Lyndhurst at 08:00 in a light S/Westerly. Good luck to all.
  24. Here in Deal it's a gorgeous morning with a light Westerly wind. For those fortunate enough to be channel racing, it's clear as far as the eye can see. Is'nt it always the way though that most of us can't race across the channel and the weather is perfect.
