  1. MOST likely some truth there, Tommy. Mind we - together couldn't compete with Bigda and Mambo etc. lol Indeed you have had more than a fair share lol. Maybe, it is because of the Fifer's wish, and rightly so, to protect you and some from home truths lol However, on the pigeon front, WE DO sincerely speak with sense and truth! It can't be allowed any more surely 'For the good of one, and stuff the rest! We are all in this together—past happening galore stand out so very much, by so many, causing great harm. The harm done to the sport and fancy. Many for a not caring and selfish attitude and off 'Gaining a March'! The senile brags to the members of the public. Like the stupidity often spouted regards 'needing To cull to get to the top', and much more, unneeded and unwanted tripe emitted by the lesser fancier to try and boost his failings. Like now! Many have lost loved ones! Thousands are missing seeing family and friends. Yes everyone now has seen or heard of deaths! Yes, we see so many bleating wanting to be exempt and trying to find the selfish and senseless comparison to enable us to do as we have always done! Defiantly to be treated differently! I can't speak for Walter, only as for myself, let me assure one and all I will talk as I see the truth! If and when pulled up, or explained I am wrong! Okay I will stand corrected and be pleased. (I have many times) In the meantime, I AM proud to spout a few home truths as I see them. Can't please everyone even some of the time granted. But a few will have to do. So I feel you will see more of me. Walter and I haven't always agreed with each other. Okay but we decide to differ and pursue our course. I will also say, unashamedly, that I like and respect Walter very much. He is of a great benefit to the site. He talks truths and gives excellent advice. One who has commanded respect. Has to gain respect, for being himself. Sadly most that can't, or won't, don't want to agree, Fine that is their Right!
  2. Any old rings will suvice I believe. Doesn't matter if 10 years old... as most likely wouldn't be raced this season!
  3. Yes a forum that is watched by very many, of many different reasons. the forum, has to be careful what is put up. Archie does a very good, if oft thankless job. We must take on board the 'Greater Good' shown and not to leave the fancy, as a whole, be cried down due to a few, thoughtless and selfish desires. Yes! the 'Good' of the sport should over ride any personal desires … which may cause an offence, or giving our sport, an uncalled for 'Bad name'! J.M..
  4. A good feel no doubt. Mind - personally, I think 'rest' is of an utmost importance. Spending energy, sometimes, whereas them doing very little, relaxing and resting. I often smile when I hear fanciers say / brag that they birds are tearing up the skies for a 2-3 hours. I believe that energy would be better saved for the week - end race personally. Mind everyone to their own. Also I suppose what distance one has in mind. Also will they be prepare if the weather plays havoc, and makes it a very hard race? yes many roads to Rome. J.M.O.
  5. Jumpingjack1974 for the great good for all eh!

    Late Breeds

You, we all hear, and many of you have seen, Percy swooping down and then up, catching its prey. however, ALL B.O.P.. are scavengers. They like a easy catch. They won't fly in wet/rain for very long if at all. Won't pass up a pheasant. But take the head and eat only. Like a fox. Will never leave a chickens head on etc. They will certainly go for them youngster 100%. especially after a rain fall. A lull in the weather. of a very good person who controlled B.O.P. Got banned on here, rightly or wrongly. He used to Jab a bird with Golden fleece sheep dip. Cull it quickly and scatter some feathers around to attract nuisances. Especially after a down pour of rain.

Maybe were meant for the B.O.P.!?

    Late Breeds

    sadly they walk amongst us.
  9. Good you gave and all will appreciate that. But you took a shot at me in ignorance implying I spouted rubbish. then to 'Pass the Parcel try yo imply I'm a Muppet. Well the muppet part refers back to you... One being lead along and unable to aknowleagde or thing for ones self. So put the cap on, it will suit you!
  10. Well Doohead, Your reply was '... You know its exactly that Indeed - J.Y.O. I take it to mean 'That's just Your Opinion'! I replied, 'Well it isn't. No! IT IS a fact! Well proven and experienced. Especially by the true fanciers of yesteryear! When small teams flew the programme for start to finish! From the shortest to the longest... and with the y/b's Some had to make way for the nest boxes and perches Elgin I think 380 miles or more second rounders flew it every other year! No not my opinion, but a FACT. When in Canada, I witnessed young birds doing 500 miles BACK TO BACK. Some went 3 times in a season! Gosh nigh all would tremble at the thought. Yeah! Ok stupid sayings like 'I wouldn't do that'! Well you aren't being asked too! 'Weer my pigeons COULDN'T do that … Well one thing for sure they won't, because they will never be sent. Golly many pout that miles is too FAR! While the fact is ANY pigeon - especially worth its salt, will piddle that in a day, weather permitting.. So it was to please thew Coast boys to fiddle 'Long distance birds. Held up at the coast after 200 miles and nip over in the morning.. ,A cold breeze and water. Home in loft whilst the genuine pigeons went another 3-4 or miles. Yet because the Race point is argued as a distance race - for some, especially in Scotland, they gain false laurels.
  11. first and 3rd.. by 11 hours Flying Thurso 479 miles in September with youngster born in June. the had flew the longest two races previously SO IS A FACT and not an opinion. the 3rd youngster I sent came back on Xmas day. Was in 1989! M.N/R.C. The weather was atrocities rained heavy for the two days... Second day arrivals were my birds. Only one beat me, near, was in Pontefract. Later second day and 3rd day very many turned up! Marking station was Louella's. It was such a fiasco that the out cry in regards them not being held over meant the demise of the M.N.R.C. Prince Jackson was flying yearlings a 1000 miles 120 years ago. Too many, possibly like you Doohead are the in main a cause of the detrimental of our birds. Not giving or allowing them to shine, and gain merit . yes to their detriment! Keep flying shorter programmes. Gosh the Egyptians, romans etc. 000's of years ago, and in the two world ward, birds were kept in baskets and travelled around in them. Yet months later would be released and fly 100's of miles home. And we fear, worry if not being trained. Second rounder - Ist rounders in late March, or early April, flew the whole programme.!
  12. No fact. First, I won Y/B
  13. So you don't need to suck eggs lol Was a time, a few years back, when a House proud mum kept the house, cloth spotless, Wipe any spot, or mar straight off. Her kid wasn't allowed to get dirty - and missed out a lot from growing up with other kids his age. Always had him at the docs for the slightest sneeze... Till one day he spouted- rather rude 'Good **** Woman let him alone and play in the mud, suck a worm or whet ever, other wise he will always be a weakling relying of …. U.s. your are harming him. He must gain an immunity ….'etc. Shocked she spoke to others... but realised that they agreed with the doc'. Yes he was out making mud pies etc. etc. Now that is at least as true today, if not more so, than ever before. Stupid potions and build up drugs only - often and most like - camouflage illnesses. We have all seen great show conditioned birds in the crates... Many shouldn't even be in them. We are being very detrimental to the well being of our - supposedly - loved birds! Not J.M.O. thoughts, but factual.
  14. Old enough to race the whole programme. Mind most likely a shorten version. Well if bred in their own loft etc. Hence I would just leave them to own devises till next seaSon. J.M.O.
  15. Good to hear mate. A great way of building up a natural immunity eh!
  16. Well any old vacuum cleaner will do the job. Mind I believe a fine spray of Water over / from the top of the compartment, brings the dust a treat and very well etc,! Then a quick scrape to lift the muck up. Quicker too, and saves the dust rising and scattering every where lol. Especially with Deep Litter. Just a fine spray a day keeps it healthy and dust away lol.

    Suffolk

phup! A big intake of a sharp breathe eh! Is there any one willing to admit they are from Suffolk on here ?
  19. Think it may well become less of a burden when Fanciers stopped looking for miracle wonders bought bought and realise that Munity constitution etc. and healthy lofts are looked to and sorted. First off, out crossing pigeons would be a good first step I believe. Yes Yb's is a Secondary attack from another weakened immune system.

Plastic Water jars- cut make great shield/masks.
  21. Well, hear some compare racing pigeons to other sports, like fishing! Mind they have o travel single to the river / lake. Yes we could do that! They have to stay well distanced. Also they naturally fish fur apart. The can say Hi and speak 2- 3 metres away when passing. We could do that. They Don't need a gathering what so ever. No contests etc. allowed. We do. And does one really thing our club rooms would stay distances apart! get real, within a short while we would be mingling, and getting closer. Also much hands on would be needed. So chances are- slim - but are chances are heightened! one can / could be infected and take home a little pressie. do I, in all honesty believe that distancing would be maintained at a club. Well from the 6o odd years in the sport I would say categorically NO'! Sorry no chance. With all the desires and good intentions, the laws as such would quickly be disbanded. You can take that to the bank... Be honest and not self in thoughts here. there is going to a very lot of mud slinging when days come about that it is safe to go out and no rules. People laying blame and innuendoes. When the matter settles and the cost is counted. When one remembers loved one that have died. AND then need to lay blame and cast aspersions. Mainly by the selfish one that did as they wanted and liked. Whom ignored rulings and knew better. Their saying when took to task with idiotic like 'Well yes, but I knew Iwhat I was doing and sure I didn't pass it on' etc.
  22. Training 5 miles from home... whatever. Train at all. If a pigeon circle is at least a quarter of a mile... about 6 hundred when even small circles, Count the circles. Then divide by 10 then double it and you will see the mileage is at least that! A lot more in fact!
  23. Dall2 ' …… Would it be an idea to take a note of the birds that you feel are most affected by the initial sickness and then the secondary infection Indeed a good Idea. Further same in regards where the best best are bred from. One may well be surprise the parentage comes from one or two ...
  24. We always have had too. Seems it will be the case for some time yet. Can't at secs think off, but there is another very good reason why birds have to be rubber... Besides being counted in the allocation of the birds per basket.
  25. Remember all, it is not only seen, but perceived to be seen that can give our sport a bad name. Indeed tarnish all the hard work many are trying to do to improve our standing within the public eye. mark my words, carefully, when the dust settles very many will be casting truths and lies. Garner exploits and casting blame. Let's keep our sport free from such. At the moment many - far too many in Joe Public are casting aspersions as to 'Why' we can't go on as we did last year for instance. Yes of course they know, but full of selfishness and wanton own desires are calling the government. soon it won't be the government that they are calling but blaming any and every thing / one …. except their selves. Indeed spouting 'Whilst 10 of thousand were dying 'They were doing as ...' Lets try and keep our sport away from such. We have a constant barrage and calling as it is. No one care, or even remembers the pigeons of war years Not the debt owed to them. No one hears or sees! Let alone remembers the charitable fund we raise and donate each year. YET so very many spout in regards the 'Flying rat's' It is in OUR hand to be sensible. And if that means, in some eyes wrong, or have a careless attitude, then they most likely won't be called at. No most likely it will be the innocence that takes a lashing and back calling. Maybe some who might have joined, won't ...
