  1. Wednesday morning and I am having a chat over the gate with him doon the street B.in L. and we are contemplating to-days race and I told him I would not be going to Appleby but perhaps Otterburn again with A.V. and he starts telling me he is really disappointed as he wanted to beat me 3 times on the trot in the club [Denny]. Come Friday it has got to me as he has never beat me 3 times in his life and I dont want to disappoint him so send 8 that are in decent feather and he is chuffed at the prospect of achieving a lifetimes ambition and sends 17. To-day Saturday and Midland lib 8.45 in a NE wind which on checking with the local weather station its 7mph SW wind so I am saying to myself 10.15 should be a good yin. 10.16 and in the gutter drinking the crap is my Pied Cock which no amount of coaxing is interested in. 10.20 and I am pulling whats left of my hair out. 10.25 and he is getting his neck wrung. 10.29 and I slump into my chair admitting defeat and he pops through the ETS trap at 10.30. They say every cloud has a silver lining and their could be a little truth in that as him doon the street isnae in till 10.44 Well and Truly Stuffed. :emoticon-0136-giggle: First bird in the Club 10.28 and I finished 3rd. Maybe there is something in this nae training after all.
  2. According to Appleby Weather Station Wind was 7mph South WEST.
  3. Whit aboot Denny members fleein in Midland Fed Tam ?.
  4. Aye, Night Night All.
  5. Aye,,, And whats your excuse for not using modern transporters ??.
  6. Then get organised and do something about it John !!!.
  7. If yer still feeding them once a week yir gettin better returns than me, But yiv no been tae Slaughterburn yit so stop yir crawin LOL.
  8. I do believe the logical reason was to hoodwink the members by the Committee because by moving to the East of France the Nat would save money crossing the channel, Dover - Calais versus Portsmouth - Cherburg at more than half the ferry price. The SNFC inland races have destroyed the Feds for its own preservation and to my mind the main reason fanciers are departing the sport. One just has to look at the last Rennes race flown and every subsequent gold cup to see we have lost the magic of the name Rennes which was and still is THE REAL GOLD CUP.
  9. I should mention that it is a concentrate 15 ml = 1 ltr. One single drop of concentrate will kill a very large Dandelion.
  10. I too have an issue with the pricing but I used to get an 18 miler when going there LOL.. That was before I followed you'r advice about feeding them once a week.
  11. As a retired pro gardener, I have a certificate which allows me to purchase Agricultural Weed Killers and the strongest is "Gallup 360".. 5 ltr container direct from Barclays @ £25 is a good price to pay for years of a weed free environment..
  12. I had the same problem John and had to change my feed half way through the O/B season. Won't ever be using them again..Coxydene are probably the best suppliers of feed in Scotia and have never failed me or others yet.
  13. Being a gardener it could be worth trying a different gel such as syrup and wasp nest powder as it wont wash of in the rain and should eventually get down to the weeds roots.
  14. Walter old mate,, "I've started so I'll finish". As Bamber Gascoigne would say. It is a case of "Dont knock it till you try it" As Davy Jamieson and John Quinn would say.. I also wrote in a post a year or two ago about a late bred hen that was never raced and brought up to Scotia, spent 5 months in my brothers shed then a month or two in my loft and when trying to break her she flew back down to London [Hatfield] spent a week or two there then flew back up and I lost her from a the first race I sent her to. Now she probably ended up in a Bassas belly and I aint keeping them to lose training and its like John says he will feed them once a week racing not evey day he goes training and I never ever believed you had to show them every lamp post down the road. No doubt this will put me in the bad fancier category to some BUT I used to give them small trainers increasing all the time out to 40 miles before racing then twice a week at 30 miles and still ended up with 1/3rd of the young bird team with losses every race AND THIS WAS BEFORE THE BASSAS WERE A PROBLEM.. Maybe the problem is that we have turned soft and it's too easy to reach for a medicine bottle instead of facing the fact that a good one was never ill in its life. We treat for diseases we never have and reckon we know better than mother nature who gets rid of the weaklings. Instead of facing reality, we depend on all the potions under the sun.. I have a big bucket and their is always room in it for any of mine that goes wrong under my care.
  15. Nae disrespect Andy but the Nat positions you have itemised are all from East race points and I would not want to go West either "IF" I wis you.
  16. Sorry for the delay in the report as I had differing things on my mind lately, Anyway last Friday afternoon and all were basketed ready for re-handling. With 2 injured from the previous week they were put back in the loft, Another 2, I was not happy with so gave them 1/4 tablet Ronadizanol and put back, Another 1 heavy in the moult so that left me sending 21 of which 14 were in the basket for the first time for the 85 miles. I could not fault them handling wise, but one never knows what is inside their heads. Saturday and Feds are being liberated at Otterburn "slaughterburn to some" but Midland are waiting for the rain to start, So its raining in the Metropolis and we get word they are up at 09.45 and I reckon on 2.1/2 hours given the size of the convoy. 12.08 one arrives but is full of flying and 2 drop into them doon the street that topped the Fed last week before mine hits the landing board and starts to do a little jig before coming in, so its in the clock at 12.11 another arrives at 12.12 without hanging about and they are coming singly every couple of minutes and I have 13 in the first hour and no more till Monday morning when I get another so have 14 from 21 dropping 7 first time in a basket youngsters.. The upshot is the first 2 were first timers and finished 6th & 7th in the club..The downshot is dropping 7 that to me were perfect in every way. It has always been a belief of mine that you will only be left with 1/3rd of your youngsters at the end off the season so hopefully wont lose many more and the duffers that we all have are gone. Them twa doon the street were 4th & 5th and all home. Sunday saw me giving them a bath as they were not to keen on flying and Monday they done about 45 minutes morning and evening with to-day hopefully about the same morning and evening when back out at 19.00 hrs to be back in at 20.30 hrs. This week its Appleby 112 mls and why we are going there is beyond belief with the Southern Uplands directly in front of them. If an East wind is forecasted I will not be sending..
  17. I am just a thick auld cnut who cannot see the wood for the trees. We have everything from print outs, Two clocks, two differing registration numbers, Naw,, all the clock experts on here that have in all probability never set any kind of pigeon clock in their lives sudenly become instrument technicians. Why do we not wait for the outcome af the enquiry which will surely take place by the RPRA or the NFC. JMO..
  18. I was always of the belief you required an accomplace to cheat with ETS.
  19. Sorry, eyes packing in as well as other parts of body. I thought I read it as 1586 not 586 Andy McKee 01236 842337.
  20. Denny pigeon phone Bert on 01324 825814
  21. The Primary and Secondary flights are less important than the cover flights, as it is they which give thrust and arrest air passing through the wing. Personally I dont send when they are missing.
  22. Sunday, And I dont think it stopped raining here in the Metropolis so kept the Y/B in and let the auld yins and late breds out for a bath. When I called them in six hours later they were like drowned rats but appeared to have enjoyed the splash about. Monday, and the Y/B were out and flew 3/4 hour in the morning and were back in before the rain returned but as it went off late afternoon they were back out and put 1 hour in before calling them in at 20.00 hrs. Tuesday, and its a lovely morning with me contemplating sending them for a thirty mile toss !!. Pacing up and down a couple of times I really had to refrain from getting the training baskets out, instead opened the doors and let them fly for an hour round the area before bringing them in and repeating again this evening. When you have been training at every opportunity for nearly 60 years it is difficult to break the habit but I am gritting my teeth and persevering. [Like the auld indian said to Clint Eastwood]..

    Question

Winning Club Averages can be quite demanding and I have won a few over the years. I remember Jim Bennet who wrote under the pseudonym "THE BAIRN" in The Racing Pigeon Gazette 1970s winning the Fed Average 1978 and packed them in the same year. Meeting up with him 10 years later at a football match I asked him why ?, and he replied "All I set my sights on I won, so their was nothing left that I wanted to do". I had to admit that when the brother and I were Federation Champions it was all I wished to do as well and can remember the night after the last race that year saying to friends I am so glad the season is over so I can relax. 2 months later I was off abroad to work as I too had felt their was nothing else I wanted to win. Perhaps it was the location where you had to be practical and admit you were in an impossible position National wise, So why beat your brains out trying to prove something that is impossible to achieve.
  24. I have some late breds ready for shifting and plasic "V" perches spare should you wish them.
  25. If you are going to try something different then you have to give it a chance !! So I will continue till the end of the season then evaluate the pros and cons. For starters though it saves petrol in my 4X4 running down the road twice a week.
