  1. With my son Barry finally returning my ladders after 6 months yesterday, [The ones that dont fall down when I am on them] I started painting the loft with it being a lovely day, managing both sides and back before lack of light stopped play. This morning on looking out I was delighted to see it piddling down with rain however Wee Mary in her wisdom reiterated that I would not get wet under the veranda.. My retort was that I would be unable to get under and I had hoped she would finish it off for me !!. Wearing my breakfast was not my idea of fun, so it will have to wait until I can seconde, {find} another mug, sorry friend or relation capable of squirming under on the promise of a tenner which I am sure I can have a lapse of memory regarding paying !!. Any volunteers ???. Job suitable for a person of small stature Wee Mary not included..

  3. Sartilly, Rennes to get them over the channel via the Cherbourg Peninsular. We only stopped going there to save a couple of pennies on the Ferry Crossing.
  4. I married one 49 years ago Davie but the wee pearl will still not go down on her knees to scrub the loft floor out. :emoticon-0136-giggle:

  6. ADVICE is free to contemplate and contradiction is the perogative of you the fancier in reply. As you say you have spent a couple of hours going over "NATURAL" and have learn't nothing from the replies..I certainly have.. I start a post to create replies on whether its right or wrong as it normally adds to the enjoyment of "Basics" although some may get a bit excited and go overboard. Bad fancier is your opinion of me, and I respect that..I aint asking you to go and learn Italian.

  10. In to-days Daily Express their is an article regarding a dairy farmer playing music to his cows in the hope it will increase milk production from them, but, as he has been playing Country and Western to them production has went down and researchers have classed it as a bizarre trial which I find amusing. For many years now, after reading that all the top race horse trainers play music 24 hrs in the stables to stop the horses becoming bored with their surroundings, I took up on it and introduced my birds to Radio 2 in the loft. Bizarre maybe but I have yet to see any of my charges dancing in the nest boxes or perches but perhaps they gyrate when I am not in attendance. Before the wisecracks reply,, I am not seeing a Psychiatrist..YET.

  13. Me !!!. Naw. After excercising for an hour the Old Birds would land and one would start gasping and the rest would follow suit so I said to C.J.Williams who I Loft Managed for that I would take a dozen birds up to Lancaster and have them checked out by Garry. Nothing could be found medically with them but I took some of his bitter stimulant tonic away with me and within a day or two they all stopped their gasping. I never did get to the bottom of the problem but it never returned. I have never felt the need to visit Garry Spavin again But if a case arose I would not hesitate to phone him. By the way Mr Hunter, Garry puts most ailments down to over use of Antibiotics..
  14. Bang on John, I visited Garry in Lancaster 12 years ago and his herbal remedies sorted out my problems in jig time..
  15. The moult is progressing well and some are looking extremely good with beautiful silky feathering. Its amazing how our birds can go from ugly ducklings into graceful swans over this period and maturity is starting to show in the two year olds. I have a stock bird I named "Rhino" due to him having a small wattle horn in the front of his nose and with deciding to have no more prisoner stock they were given their freedom to go or stay whichever took their fancy. I was delighted he has remained as I have quite a number from him and am pleased with the way they are developing. "Rhino" is down from "De Cas" and "Nelly's Lelly" c/o House of Aarden so steeped in International Barcelona 700+ miles blood and is the Sire of my youngster Pied Cock when paired to a Hen from "De Cas" and a Daughter of "Severn Eleven" the multi National winner for the late Dennis Ford and sold at his entire clearance sale for £10,000.. One can only hope Blood Tell's..

    Trap

SOLWAY FEEDERS advertised on the right hand side of page have the "Larson Mate Trap". I used the larson trap in England and Wales extensively finding them to be extremely effective and at £27 its a good buy. A phone call to them will keep you right..

    Cats,

The late Budgie "Aye we had one in the Metropolis" was having a problem with a feline on his landing board so put a metal tray on it and crocodile clipped it to the mains. When he switched it on it blew the electric box clean off the wall and knocked out the entire Street. Apart from the burns and a permanent twitch ensued, he was landed with a bill for Hundreds of £££ and the cat still frequently visited him. :emoticon-0136-giggle:

    Cats,

Could not say John as I am not an Electrician. You can purchase cheap pulsers with a small 6 volt battery but they wont give out much, I only know to my cost.

    Cats,

I thought that as well but not if you are running 100 metres of 1 metre fencing. Perhaps with a single wire but I know the single wire 500 metres for horses did not last that long on the leasure battery as I had to change them regularly. Plus I think the Amp output affects charge.

    Cats,

Mains connection Tommy and incorporates a time switch. The one second pulse kicks out 5 Amperes which you would not wish to touch twice. Both my dogs wont even leave the house when they hear it pulsing when on. The fence is small mesh at the bottom rising to a larger mesh at the top and is 1 metre high. It has shocked the following to the point of no return visit, Snails,Mice, frogs, rats, cats, dogs,Foxes and persons that have no right being in my garden, I have used the car battery operation for poultry where their compound was in the middle of an orchard but found it a bit of a nuisance charging every other day. Like all things in life you only get what you pay for.
