In attmpting to make sense of Ian's Post #7 it would give the impression in my opinion, that Ferals were tested but Racng Pigeons were not, unless I have mistaken some of the script, and that they were not susceptable to the virus. I could and will give my thought's on this matter stating that Feral pigeons are hardier with a stronger immune system than our pampered pets which some will fill with antibiotics whether they require them or not !! ""Prevention being better than cure"" therefore a weakened immune system. Why are Turkeys or Chickens often the recipitents off viruses, could it be the fact they are fed pelleted feed which contain antibiotics and prior to entering the food chain will have been weaned off to show they are free of medication and fit for human consumption..BANG.. Just my opinion.

I was thinking the Country went from Stirling in the North to Lanark in the South LOL.
-
In my opinion their should only be one marking station in the center of the Country and all clocks set and checked there. The only handlers should be Committee Members likewise Clock Setters. Security should be paramount and beyond approach with the birds from all sections thoroughly mixed up then perhaps the result would not be dominated by any one Section. Clock checking the same with one station and same clock committee.

I have suffered a weeping eye for over a year or two and eventually made an appointment with the Dr who gave me a cream which was useless then gave me antibiotics saying I may have a blocked tear duct so asked him to explain in detail.. Now it would appear that all eyes are protected by liquid which drain away down a Duct into the throat through the corner of the eye socket which can become blocked with mucus, dust or Bacterial infection.. Should the Antibiotics fail then an operation is required where the surgeon freezes the eye and inserts a tube into the duct and vaccummes it clear. Is this not One Eye Cold ??.

Proposed 700 Ml Racing Into Central Scotland .
peter pandy replied to eastcoaster's topic in Notice Board
I think I would be correct in stating that everyone on Basics is a novice when it comes to 700 miles racing so to rectify that particular problem for those who are interested you can forget the SNFC and Federation programns. Having lifted Young Birds that have never seen the inside of a basket and started with a 112 mile race has given me a dose of further confidence to attempt a programne with the intention of jumping Old Birds 100 miles every week starting in April for three weeks which is the equivalent of Cheltenham as the West coast route is the only answer,IMO, this would allow you to catch BICC races at 500 miles in May which would set you up for 700+ in early June. Who is for it !!..I wont hold my breath. -

Was Richard Combe not competing in the NFC North Sec the past couple of years ??. -
Who mentioned anything about identification marking Steve ?. You surely cannot be seriously suggesting that a blob of ink is an I.D. mark for goodness sake. I would have thought every fancier in the land would do anything to protect his birds whether racing home or burling around the loft.
-
I wish to thank the fanciers who have participated in the white rump observation and in particular the use of Dye as a precaution against attack by the Bassa's. I have noticed birds being basketed for National races with coloured dye on the feathers and never gave it a thought that some would complain as Del mentioned. Surely no one should wish to complain on its use and as their is nothing in any rule books regarding deterrants then more of us should be willing to use dye once the season commences, Perhaps clubs should facilitate the spraying or daubing on marking nights then all participants would have marked birds in the baskets.

All is quiet here in the Metropolis of Camelon with the onslaught of Winter looming and a couple of frosty mornings have had the birds looking for more feed athough getting 35 grams daily for a wee while now with 50% Barley in the mix will have to suffice. Reading the tabloids this morning informed us that flocks of Waxwings are travelling over the North Sea from Europe with 2,000 already here in Scotland from Russia and more on the way to winter in our not so severe climate and feed on the bumper crop of Berries available for them. Perhaps it would be prudent to follow instructions and keep our charges indoors until more information is forthcoming regarding the bird flu warnings. Although my hearing is deterioating at a rapid rate I and a couple of mates attended the Midland Fed AGM to enquire and vote on the removal of Fed Membership Fees by the Management Committee. With the expectation of fanciers from other Feds seeking Membership to the three clubs left in the Fed hopefully increasing the birdage to races as the Rule "That you cannot fly in Two Feds" was also thrown out. We also upped the birdage rate from 32P to 35P per bird and done away with the scandalous £45 per loft up front before racing commences and 10 free birds per race.. As not one single person in our club had sent the 10 birds to every race especially as most were cleaned out by the 4th old bird race and the 3rd Young bird race.

For what it is worth, my tuppence says if the birds are not at a race point that is conjunctive to the Cherburg Peninsula then all the French races are subjected to unacceptable returns.

I visit Clarkston Pigeon Club not only to help financially by entering my birds which I know wont win anything "not being dipped" but for the intelligent conversation from like minded fanciers. Unfortunately I am mocked by the knuckle draggers who attempt to bring me down to their level which so far their endeavour's have been unsuccessful.I shall however persist to enlighten them with my knowledge, wit and patronage and hopefully a benevolent gentleman will purchase me a cuppa having travelled so far to partake in their company next week. I have taken notice of comments from the disturbed, especially the tree owner and his sidekick Banjo player and will depart with the old saying "He who laughs last" etc.etc.
