  1. Spent a week trying unsuccessfully to find out what TRIOS means John apart from a threesome !, and yes I have two Cocks paired to the one Hen which is a new one on me however they appear to be happy with the situation, The first eggs were laid on six days and at eight days 14 from 19 Hens are sitting eggs. To-day we have blizzards yet in four days it will be Summer time !!, Oh by the way for the gardeners who are interested, all my Daffodils flowered the same day I paired up on the full moon, coincidence perhaps.. The loft is full of the joys of Spring with the amount of roaring to be heard from the inmates and with no bloody wattles all is harmony, Long may it continue. With the Terror Eyes reinstalled after its Winter lay off my resident Jackdaws have concluded that it is allowing them more access to the fat ball feeder with some smaller birds still wary of it although they sneak in when they feel its not looking at them, Either that or its my imagination, Probably the latter. BHW and RP. Tony Harte who wrote Eddie Newcombe's tribute in both weekly papers brought so many memories back that had been forgotten in the mist of time inside me especially regarding Festival Merryee who I had for a seasons breeding, There was also an article by Rod Adams which included the writer Dr G.H.T.Stovin who was the author of Pedigree Cattle Breeding and Breeding Better Pigeons which Eddie gave me to read after I had asked him for the pedigree of Merryee. It was written by Dr Stovin that it is impossible to pick Breeding Stock by Pedigree, by Type, by Eyesign or by any other man-devised system, Because Man is eternally looking for a sign where no sign can be given to him.. So Eddie never wrote pedigree's.
  2. Get independence and I can vote for whoever I like ??????. I can do that at the moment. Begging for my supper ??????. Never had to beg in my life as I got off my backside and have worked all my life never claiming a penny piece I did not work for unlike the shirkers I see going about. Less people to sell our products too, ?????. Tariffs kill trade applied by the E.U. not buyers. 50 years in Europe put food in my belly, ?????. See answer 2. U.K. Tried to shut down every employment, ????. Well go ask the fishing villages, then look at the outdated industries that had nobody to sell to. Technology moved on but Trade unionism killed the Scottish Car industry along with many others. The working man can be his own worst enemy. Their is an old saying, " A little knowledge is more dangerous than none at all "
  3. I have often wondered what Freedom and Independence really meant ??. Freedom.. from what ?, as we do and say basically, whatever we want within the laws of the Country and have the freedom to improve ourselves either through knowledge or work, which is rewarding mentally or financially. Their are no constraints upon either. Independence.. So some want to be a separate country from the U.K. ?. I can go along with that reasoning however Independence is supposed to be outwith the control of any other country which rather defeats the purpose of breaking from one to be part of another by having to accept E.U. rules on trade. So that is not freedom either.. It has been mooted that we could survive on our main exports which are Whisky, Electronics and Service Industries. 80% of Scotland's Distilleries are foreign owned, 70% of Electronic Firms are foreign owned and I know nothing about Service Industries apart from Wee Jean from Leith Walk. Naw I will stick with the U.K. as it has looked after me and my family for 70 years and gave us everything we have wished for and don't wish to be ruled by the Tartan Tories which the SNP was termed in the past.
  4. I have found that when PayPal is the medium of payment all deliveries are prompt, perhaps something to do with Credit/Debit card use, the seller waits payment confirmation from Banks before delivering purchase..
  5. Am barred frae all the big bookies..
  6. All going well in the loft with pairs in nest boxes content with their surroundings and hens cooried down in the pans, 29 Cocks with 19 Hens leaves plenty choices for the ladies. Gales to-day sees them confined to the loft at the moment however It may quieten down later to have them out for a bit which is a lovely time to watch them getting up to all the antics whilst flying together in pairs, exercise is the last thing on their minds.
  7. 617270.
  8. I am inundated with moths and midges every year in the loft BUT have never ever experienced YBS nor do I spray willy nilly so do not believe its an insect borne disease, Sorry but I cannot help with your problems other than I know that fanciers who DO NOT Vaccinate have contracted it every year till they Vaccinated youngster when leaving the nest as I told them. FACTS..
  9. The song goes.. The sun has got his hat on Hip Hip Hip Hoorah, The sun has got his hat on so I paired them up to-day..
  10. Blue skies !! that's a joke, Another day with dampness in the air but let the hens out which was a waste of time only putting in 45 minutes. The Cocks will be out while I am off for the Saturday afternoon blether.. To-morrow Sunday sees the March Full Moon and I am swithering whether to pair or wait till the light and dark is equal on the 18th !! Decisions Decisions .. :emoticon-0138-thinking:
  11. A very good report and well written which leaves much food for thought. One we can all emulate by re-reading it a few times. Congratulations to one and all.
  12. Prior to ETS coming aboard all my pigeons had their rubbers removed on entering the loft whereupon they were handled to ascertain body loss in regards time on wing and feed regime. should one or two, sometimes all, have a substantial weight loss then more beans were added to the mix which I would be happy with in the following weeks race if the late comers had virtually no loss in body weight even flying 8-10 hrs. With ETS complacency has set in with the birds not being handled till basketing for next trainer 4 days later, when they have recovered any weight loss and I am tricked into thinking all was well and perhaps the opposite would have been the requisite. I have in the past depended on observation to tell me if all is not as it should be, whether its the birds demeanour, droppings or attitude to its surroundings likewise I never chase birds out the loft for exercise, If they don't wish to go out then they are handled for fault but nor removed from the loft in the off chance it could make the problem worse and all is usually back to normal after 24 hrs. Once again the weather has kept the team from exercise but hopefully to-morrow will see a bit of blue up above..
  13. Sorry but no it is not in equal parts and I am afraid I don't wish to divulge the percentages until I have tried it for a season. What I have stated so far is the morning feed which I give on alternate days and should give results out to 300 miles but as yet cannot be sure of my facts. Please be patient with me and I promise to divulge all later in the season whether it is worth trying or not.
  14. Really pleased to know you are staying with us and I suppose its best you stay out there as you would have a difficult time trying to get a card LOL :emoticon-0136-giggle:
  15. Cheers Billy, If I am quick enough getting out the loft on letting them out I am able to catch them rounding the High Flats then heading up your way, I think they are turning again at the wheel then heading North as on occasion I see them heading over at Carmuirs then that's it till they come back from the Blue to do a repeat performance. Heard you were having thoughts on packing in ?, Hope not now you have company up there. You should be following the others frae Camelon and joining us with him "doon the Street" oor new Secretary.
  16. Tommy,, You stick tae winding up yir mates (if ony) in Lanarkshire LOL
  17. Just because yir team is getting stuffed every week Dinnae tak it oot oan me. Time ye wir awa back tae Thailand..Wee Mary says ""aw ra best"".
  18. Gales here in the Metropolis kept the birds in yesterday and with a beautiful sky to-day Hens went out at 10.00 and returned to the loft at 12.15, checked them out to see if they were fielding but nothing on the feet or beaks to suggest anything other than away exercising. Cocks out at 13.00 and they too are offsky. Now I know that I have mentioned in past posts that wild birds don't appear to fly eagerly in the afternoon but these birds are making a mug out of me, Then again it could be the routine I have instilled into them as I have changed much in my thoughts and carrying out ideas which I have never tried before.
  19. Soul destroying Ryan to lose a favourite, My commiserations.
  20. NAW just Practical. :emoticon-0140-rofl:
  21. Never had a rogue pigeon in all the years I have kept them, But then again I just have open nest boxes without fronts and let them pick their own Hens. Once many years ago a Hen had a smashed egg on her keel for no reason that I could fathom out. Still never met the fancier who could pick out a Cock and Hen and guarantee winners so why not let them pick their own mates.. Lot less hassle..For you and the birds.
  22. My Vet gave me Levacide injection 7.5 % Which he then worked out average bodyweight per bird at 1 Ml to 1 Litre Water in the drinker. It has to be withdrawn and measured by hypodermic needle.
  23. 5 Star Petrol LOL, Beans, Peas, Tares, Maize, Wheat, Dari, Barley, Sunflower, Linseed. One feed Daily 28 Grams per Bird.
  24. ""ME"" Stuart, Cannae be mony oh us wi patience.
