  1. Up North Combine CHELMSFORD Approximately 21,000 birds were liberated at 6.30am in a fresh South Westerly wind https://www.facebook.com/groups/845982882405682/permalink/1185905391746761/

  4. There is a mass Liberation from Chelmsford tomorrow - though not a combine race, approx 21,000 birds will be liberated in the morning Can you guess the velocity of the fastest on the day? Distance approx 195 miles for shortest fliers to 285 ish longest fliers
  5. 37/39 but got one back missing from Monday's race. Was first club with a 2 year old roundabout hen doing 1720 ypm
  6. Up North Combine Oakham Group 1 @ 7.00am Group 2 @ 7.20am Group 3 @ 7.40am Wind is light SW Good Luck everybody
  7. Crap - foggy on coast (where I am) for most of the day, 10 minutes between my first two birds, only had about 7 back in first hour (out of 48) currently 7 missing. Birds - especially the cocks, look like they've flown 400 miles (knack*red) - and all my blue pied cocks have pecked eyes ( was a 106 mile race)
  8. Up North Combine Newark Group 1 1.00pm Group 2 1.20pm Group 3 1.40pm Wind is light SE turning NE
  9. Marking was OK - members wore masks and markers wore masks and face shields as well as gloves The race: Went OK - and I think we may have full returns, I don't know why ETS rings suddenly fail - but they do - we replaced 3 before the race, but another one failed to register, (and several other rings belonging to club members) Not that it made much difference, first one back sat on the roof for ten minutes but wouldn't have won anyway - it's a long time since that last happened, and the birds were very jumpy The highlight - we won the 30p & 50p pool with our 2nd pigeon back (25th club!) a 2 year old widowhood hen who was not raced as a yearling (as we raced the cocks in that section last year) Onwards and upwards - there's always next week - Newark !
  10. Report to the NEHU and you will receive an automatic reply http://www.nehu.co.uk/reportstraynehu.asp
  11. Have put it on a Facebook page - awaiting information
  12. I hope Andy has remembered! Happy Birthday Seona xx
  13. Lockdown for almost 3 months, glorious weather, talk of drought in Scotland and North West of England - and then they decide we can race our birds :emoticon-0156-rain:
  14. Good Morning all
  15. 2 years ago Archie allowed me to put on a charity fundraiser for The Teenage Cancer trust as my granddaughter had been diagnosed with cancer at the age of 18. She sadly passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday at the age of 20
  16. They look like mesembryanthemums (Livingstone daisies) - verbascum is a good plant for the garden, it's a treatment for respiratory infections, birds readily eat the leaves
  17. Do you intend leaving the pads set up in the loft? We fly behind the house and always dismantle the system after each race, keeping it in the shed, any water spill could ruin the system (dropping a drinker, water ingress from rain - we've had the lot!)

  19. Our club baskets at an allotment where the majority of the club members fly. We have two containers with a covered area in between (roof only which is open both ends) and with very little in the way of alterations we should be able to basket, currently sourcing a perspex screen, and already have a generator innuse, the club is all ETS (as is the fed) Face shields ordered Face masks are home made (by me, but has a heavyweight non-woven interfacing as the middle layer, with 100% cotton outers, fully washable 99.9% isopropyl alcohol (watered down with cooled boiled water to 75% in spray bottles) 62% - 72% alcohol content hand gel (purchased) Care wipes (sprayed with alcohol rub to wipe down ets clock and baskets - single use and discard) Surgical gloves We have one volunteer to do the ETS system currently, we don't have many members under 70, several with underlying health conditions, and the young members we do have are all working, so that is still to sort out Anything I might have forgotten? Anybody else got things in place under control?
  20. It is a good thread, keep the politics out of it, stay safe
  21. We used Walkers last week, first time we've used them and they were very efficient and kept you informed
  22. I've taken your personal details (phone numbers) off now that the youngster has been collected
  23. We have to work out how this is going to happen, and get members to follow a regime of safe practices - you wouldn't believe how many phone calls and questions we've had from members and none members - and on my post about PPE - members of our club are expecting the club secretary to source and provide it - I knew they would, so to expect the younger members to shield the older members - they won't, my husband is rapping in being a secretary, the members can't even think for themselves, never mind actually do anything
  24. The NEHU have issued a short statement as they are following the RPRA guidance - sorry to the top enders of the combine who have to follow their government's guidelines
  25. TRAINING RACING PIGEONS IN ENGLAND Members should read all of the following statement, and encourage all other members to read the full statement and not rely on word of mouth. Firstly I must stress that the document relates to England only. The devolved Governments have set out a different position in relation to restrictions. The statement is based on the principles set out by the Prime Minister’s announcement on Sunday 10th May 2020 that outlined a shift from a ‘Stay at Home’ policy to a ‘Stay Alert’ Policy, and the publication of the Government’s 60 page COVID-19 recovery strategy, published at 2pm on 11th May 2020. This document can be found via www.gov.uk. Where relevant, extracts from the Government’s strategy have been copied and pasted, and are highlighted in italics. Individual Loft Training Individual loft Training will be permitted from Wednesday 13th May 2020. This is based on the following extract from the Government’s strategy documents: ‘People may drive to outdoor open spaces irrespective of distance, so long as they respect social distancing guidance while they are there, because this does not involve contact with people outside your household. When travelling to outdoor spaces, it is important that people respect the rules in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and do not travel to different parts of the UK where it would be inconsistent with guidance or regulations issued by the relevant devolved administration’. Group Training We are currently in Phase 1 of the Government strategy, and this allows individuals to meet up with one member from a different household, while adhering to the social distancing requirements of 2 metres. Therefore group training of 2 lofts is permitted. However, training in larger groups (more than two) is not permitted. Additional Information In no circumstances should fanciers from different lofts travel in the same vehicle. While carrying out training, members should not be travelling into Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, all of which currently have different rules in place regarding travel. Questions and Answers • Why isn’t training allowed in Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland? The devolved Governments in all three countries currently have a different approach relating to travel restrictions. However, we have and will continue to make contact with each devolved Government to discuss the possibility of training being authorised. • When will racing commence? It is impossible to provide an exact date, and members should not assume racing will start on any given date. Our best case scenario is that racing would commence the first weekend in June. However, for that to happen the following will need to be achieved: Stage two of the Governments strategy would have to be implemented. This states: To aid planning, the Government’s current aim is that the second step will be made no earlier than Monday 1 June, subject to these conditions being satisfied. (Please refer to the Government’s strategy documents for details of the conditions.) Phase two then outlines that IF such conditions are satisfied and stage 2 is implemented, the following will be allowed: Permitting cultural and sporting events to take place behind closed-doors for broadcast, while avoiding the risk of large-scale social contact. The RPRA has developed a race marking and clock striking protocol that will be refined to take into consideration the latest announcements and published as soon as possible. In addition the General Licence for Gatherings (birds not people) does not, currently, allow gatherings indoors, and until this changes it would be difficult to facilitate race marking could be carried out. We are currently seeking clarification as to when this MAY change. • Our Club HQ/Marking Station is in a pub or club? Clubs and organisations are encouraged to source alternative/contingency venues to race mark and clock strike, and wherever possible share race marking venues and facilities with other clubs. Where possible clubs are also encouraged to confirm with their existing HQ/Marking stations that they have permission to use the premises. Ian Evans CEO
