  1. Redcar Central Flying Club - 20 members sent 600 birds to Worksop av distance 88 miles (all members sent bar two new starters - who have young birds only and another only interested in Channel racing)
  2. I didn't know you could - manually calculate or use an online calculator "Velocity Calc" http://www.birdman.co.uk/check_your_birds_velocity.htm
  3. We've trained ours out to 30 miles or so - had approx 12 training tosses, 2 latebreds amongst them, 3 injured so far ( 2 hawked and 1 hit wires) and 2 missing presumed dead, latebreds seem to have a look around for hours at a new training point then directly home on 2nd one from same spot, Easingwold tosses were horrendous, Scarborough not so bad, first race this Saturday is from Worksop (88 miles) so need to get more distance to training
  4. It's just like the K index - but they want paying!
  5. Blimey - that's flown by! Happy Anniversary to you both xx
  6. It depends on your Covid rules - essential journeys - in England that changes on 29th March, so we can train our own birds, but cannot train other peoples birds, as that is a gathering and not allowed under bird flu rules - again England only (I'm not familiar with the differences between England & Scotland only know there are some differences in the rules for both)
  7. We got letters here addressed to 'The occupier' everybody within about 10 miles - but it specifically says pigeons (bred for meat) so presumably you don't have to register if you breed for racing
  8. The surveillance zone ended on March 22nd - so you can get your birds out
  9. Have you tried them individually only setting up one at a time?, do they register on your base station? They can easily be set up incorrectly - honestly (just ask my OH LOL!)
  10. £60 - £99 is the price of the refurbished printers on eBay currently- but we only paid £40 for ours some 10 years ago - I didn't mention the price of the toner cartridges on my initial post - only that they were cheap
  11. What are you doing to them? Are you sure it's not the cables? We have three at our loft and have never replaced any in 10 to 12 years, but have replaced the cables (replacements bought from ebay or cables for less for a couple of pounds)
  12. I only pay between £12 - 14 for two generic toner cartridges as they are very cheap and do between 2000 & 10,000 sheets (they can be extremely variable) the toner is a powder and makes an absolute mess I wouldn't try and refill when they are so cheap to buy!
  13. We use a brother HL 5240 L for the club (you need a printer that uses a parallel cable) which we got from eBay for £40 at the time (currently £60 - £99) toner is cheap
  14. Please note regards PMV, vaccinating and medicating your birds
  15. Vaccine not approved in the UK - there are only 2 vaccines approved by DEFRA for pigeons and that isn't one of them, it therefore is not approved by whatever union you fly in
  16. If you purchase from an online vet who sells the vaccine it will state that it will be sent in a cool bag (& you usually get charged extra) Before lockdown I used to physically go and get the vaccine from Hyper drug near Middleton on Teesdale- and take frozen blocks and a cool bag with me as it was a 3 to 4 hour round trip
  17. The Up North Combine are not starting on the 10th - a new race programme is being issued
  18. It was announced yesterday that Jeannine, wife of the former president of the NEHU Tom Dawson, passed away on Tuesday 2nd March 2021 (covid-19) Our thoughts are with Tom, family and friends at this very sad time
  19. It was as if my Internet was down - but I could get on other sites OK
  20. No comment No comment
  21. I don't think any of our club members have been visited, but we are not in the 3km zone here in Redcar, I do know the local authority here are knocking on doors to newish properties within the 3km zone to see if they are keeping poultry (local Facebook pages asking if legit)
  22. It looks like you have to wait 30 days from completion of primary cleaning following an outbreak https://www.gov.scot/publications/avian-influenza-bird-flu/
  23. If it's anything like ours in Redcar - you just have to keep on looking on the Internet, the ones so far that I have seen have varied between 3 and 5 weeks, ours started on February 6th
  24. Go in the pound shop or poundstretcher and get some extra strong reading glasses - best scenario - you can read the articles - worst scenario - you've wasted a £1 I'm short sighted so none of this applies to me
