  1. Well done Lewis
  2. Enjoyed that Walter
  3. This is the main reason I would never pair pigeons up in December, it's bad enough letting old birds out in March, let alone youngsters. The peregrine / hen sparrowhawk, would have a feast.

    Magpie

We didn't have any magpies in this area until about five years ago. After seeing the first pair, their numbers have increased considerably and every time I'm in the garden there are several magpies in the trees. Counted 6 in one tree yesterday.
  5. RIP Mrs Rankin.
  6. Soon be Guy Fawkes night ??? Cheapest way perhaps ??
  7. See page 92 in this weeks BHW.
  8. " Black Rocket" - not many like her about, past or present, 17 hour 40 minutes, ON THE DAY!!
  9. Bert Stewart, Carnoustie had the 1st bird into Scotland from 1000 mile race, around 1977. A & A Taylor, Dundee were 3rd if my memory is correct. Bert Stewart's pigeon was a mealy hen named "Betty's Delight", which was bred by A & A Taylor. The Taylor loft was based on John Ellis, Wellbank blood. I'm pretty sure "Betty's Delight" flew Pau, the season before she was 1st Palamos with the Scottish 1000 mile club.
  10. Totally agree, I would say he was a master breeder.

    Cats,

An electric fence will certainly sort the problem.
  13. It has been known to make my blood boil Derek
  14. Rough handlers when race marking the birds.
  15. Might be an idea to look at the loft ventilation and number of pigeons kept, to avoid this problem in the future.
  16. Thanks Gary
  17. I see THE DOO RUN BOYS at 242nd, not sure if they had anything earlier ??
  18. Yes, Anderson & Brown, Kirkintilloch with their hen "Webbie" - sure she won a gold award.
  19. ANOTHER great team performance from Dave Baldie
  20. Beautiful hens Lewis, good luck with your sale
  21. 100% correct Derek.
  22. Have passed your number on. They were telling me that the bird has been to 6 yb races including Ripon on Saturday. They tossed their birds today from Thornton and the hen ends up in Clackmannan - no doubt a peregrine involved ??
  23. I bred the bird and Hansen Brothers bought it at the club sale. If you could pm me your tel number I will pass it on to them. Thanks.
  24. I experienced the same throughout the month of June, they seem to have disappeared ??? for good I hope.
