Rest in peace Bill, Bill has been through a terrible ordeal these last few years but throughout Bill faced the dilemmas and constraints with great courage and dignity. The result from Reims last year was a beautiful poignant display of man and pigeon against the odds. Bill had some tremendous results at the long distance , the long distance being his only ambition. Often perpexlingly good ! Bill was a very astute thoughtful person who built a good business , had a deep love of nature and was a great gentleman, God bless. Glen

J W Langstone used to weigh his pigeons. pre and post races. We are dating back to the 1950's but there were always historically fanciers thinking.

The constant is the photographer. I don't go for the look but others like it. If you take 1000 odd photographs it breeds the homogenous appearance.

In my opinion the gold cup should be about the pinnacle of our sport, it should not be easy (perhaps even a life times building towards) . It should be difficult and a test of fair endurance ( a whole day race) and to clock on the night 12 -15 hours is wonderful. Watch a cycling race in the Tour de France they can all race at great speeds , let them face a gradient and watch the pack being spread out when tested. Those that look good on the flat suddenly are nobody. To attain a good result brings memories, 1976 is the highest birdage ever for the gold cup and I remember my dad bringing in "the red hen" to the house at 9.02pm just after clocking although only young you could sense it was an achievement . It is an immense memory and I don't think you can get that if it's not on the night, difficult to achieve , the best have worked through etc. Recently I met Paul Dora who won Rennes 1961 , and I was honoured , because he won the race.

Hi I am wondering if anybody is able to pick up at bird at Costorphine In the pets at home shop. My wife is willing to pick up tomorrow from the shop and travel down but needs to visit Harvey Niks also , so it is becoming a rather expensive loss . The bird is apparently not in a great way. If anybody can pick tomorrow morning / afternoon that would be great. As I say my wife can travel down to collect from the shop tomorrow (which is apparently the longest they can keep it) but would rather it was picked up and we collect at the weekend (if possible) Pm me or contact / text 07411 713065 Thanks Glen

Interesting Peter. From what I have read (and only read) people say the raptors soon get used to the eyes. You have the balloon relatively high I guess. Do you live in an area that would naturally expect to have raptors , are other people close by effected ? Do you use the balloon at all times / seasons or just before the birds go out ?

A great fancier and a great breeder. Dave Scott pigeons were highly represented in pigeons that achieved wonderful results in the national races. Amongst others Jim Donaldson (Peterhead) and Bill Dorward (Arbroath) . Rest in peace.

Dismantle Current Lofts & Erect In New Location
glencameron replied to glencameron's topic in Notice Board
Thanks for advice re base and if needed for helping put up I will call (for sure). you know I beat him in one of the Nationals and he has not heard must else since (hopefully that is not why he is in Portugal at present with no birds at Clermont). -
Not looking for a favour. Willing to pay market rates Unfortunately I am moving from Aberdeen to Arbroath. I say unfortunately only in the short term pigeon sense as I feel I am just starting to get somewhere concentrating only on nationals . I also feel so sad Bobby is retired who has done so well this year with 2 * 1st north sections Anyway. I have three lofts (14 foot by 6, 13 foot by 6 and 12 by 6) which in the short term I will be keeping . I believe they can all be dismantled relatively easily (by somebody who knows what they are doing , not me). The later one is from Eco lofts can be and I am confident the two other made by Michael Main can also be dismantled I am looking for the lofts to be dismantled as close to 4th September as possible Erected as soon a possible after 4th September, If you can do such work or know somebody who can feel free to pm me. (You dont need to be local just add travel to your costs) In terms of where I am moving garden wise it is theoretically a pigeon paradise (Hawks exempt)

One of the Uk's iconic races as I was growing up the LNRC Thurso , some great winners your following . Really well done
-
In my opinion simply the best long distance pigeon currently racing in the UK. The gold cup prizes have been won from different race points, facing wildly different conditions and obstacles. I have spent more time talking about this pigeon with my father than it takes her to fly the gold cup. For me this is what pigeon racing is all about, good pigeons.

For the pigeons if we are racing tomorrow Blowin ’ In The Wind – cover by Peter, Paul and Mary And especially for the west section boys Against The Wind – Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=R8x9oNZ7CcI

Hi Phil I am in Dunfermline tomorrow. I am working and need to get back for my birds but if we can arrange a collection or they are near Queensberry Road (FMC Office), I can bring back To Aberdeen.

Just a quick update. Harry Hainey did this work and did a tremendous job in the process, far better than I could have envisaged possible, and somehow I have a new corn store in the process. The extra loft is up and looking good. Maybe a better recommendation is my wife who is pretty fastidious (being nice) and she is singing praise to the high heavens and thinking of kids park in the garden !! (albeit she is wondering why I have a new extra loft). Thanks Harry

Maybe a first for a basics disco or even a disco , songstress Nanci Griffith , once in a very blue moon.

Is there anybody who could quote me Dismantling of an 8 by 6 loft. It is pretty heavy duty (When I say Loft I think the construction is so strange it can’t really be taken down in nice panels) Clearance of some shubs/tree and lay base to make way for a 12 by 8 loft Also full removal of the above (location Aberdeen) PM me if interested.

With reference to High Flier Couriers ………..And whoa betide if your wife happens to be in labour ! It is unfortunate to say I find the list of couriers on basics very misleading and not representative of actual working. I have been through this list that is provided with exasperation in the last few weeks. I am due great thanks to favours from Scott, Kevin Elliot. Jim Coutts and Colin Crowe. If couriers are to be listed it should state They deliver at regular times. I,e they are part of any existing network of couriers that does not rely upon pigeons that deliver in the UK or specific areas They deliver to specific places with genuine prices shown As it is I am finding it considerably easier to get a pigeon collected from Belgium and delivered than through this list
