  2. In my opinion it should definitely be a requirement to verify arrivals and it would be better if we could see the race progressing. If there are unsatisfactory checks in place that should be addressed with immediate effect. Additional verification via wing stamps if required. Why should we be the only country in the modern world that cannot do this ? I can view any International & Eastern European national race via web site updates as the race is progressing.
  3. Friend of mine in a West Bromwich club has a funny coloured race for young birds. Each year they select an unusual colour say chocolate, pied etc and first home in a certain young bird race wins. Great leveller and good fun sourcing etc and often proves interest in the families as the colour is unusual .

  5. Walkers transport (see BHW) perform a wonderful service collecting and delivering to Scotland from Belgium. All defra and import duties followed. It also means you could get when ready as they collect on a very regular basis.
  6. It is very tempting to say this is old glories the strain Ko Nipius Look who bred the grandmother of the 3rd best Barcelona pigeon on co-efficient and prizes over the last 5 years 2010-2014) http://www.toppigeons.com/Home/TppNewsItem/tabid/117/topicId/1383/language/en-US/Default.aspx Ko Nipius was a relatively wealthy fancier and was in the main very successful at short distance. He was many times champion of Holland. It is interesting to observe a Ko Nipius in the past did not mean it had to a be a long distance pigeon. (It is generally assumed to be the case) See the following information: Translated from Duthc via internet so not 100% easy to read Source: Jan Aarden and the history of the Dutch long distance pigeon Sjra Hendriks and Machiel Buijk Ko Nipius bedreef in the 50s a textile business in the village of Middleharnis on the island Goeree-Flakee. Nipius had in those years one of the largest pigeon colonies of the Netherlands. He was assisted by his assistant caregiver Joep van Dongen. This man was the driving force behind the successful series of Nipius. The colony Nipius was developed with pigeons from all the world's races: Maurice Delbar and Joseph Portois from Ronse, George Wibail from Malenzwee, The Brothers Scheemaecker, Jos Hermans and Corneille Horemans, Fabry, Goossens and Arthur de Clippel. Through crosses and Joep Ko managed to grow for one day fond. Formidable pigeons But after the war, Ko could not do anything with all his highly paid world races on the overnight. He tried everything, but all the major investments were to no avail. To burgundy racing team could win everything there is to win, but Nipius and van Dongen were passionate about the overnight races. On the advice of Joep they went to Jan Aarden: he paid these eggs expensive and figure was not there. He got two eggs from the "Blue Delbar" x "Deep Mees." One of these youngsters the NL 54 1026701, a blue hen was one of the main pigeons of Nipius the overnight. In 1955 Nipius and van Dongen moved to Clay again and bought a lot of money for very two breeding pairs away: the breeding couple "Toe" x "Deep Duguffroy". The best son of that couple was the "Witpen 47", the father was the infamous "019" in 1963, the 4th national Barcelona won. The "Deep Duguffroy" also gave other cocks fine boy. The "Blue Delbar" x "38" came the "Blue Witpen" coupled with "Heentje" Rinus Masters, the 2nd national Barcelona won. But this aside. The second breeding pair that Ko Nipius advised by Joep purchased was "Dark Witpen" x "Witpen Staff" by Staff Dusarduyn. These two birds were among the formidable racing team of Jan Aarden. "Dark Witpen" alias "Witpen Earthen" flew in Earthen among others. 49th nat. St Vincent in 1955 against 9144 pigeons and the 1101e wet. St. Vincent in 1953 against 8242 pigeons and the 761e national St Vincent in 1954 against 10301 pigeons. "Witpen Staff" won a 193rd wet. St Vincent and 125th wet. Dax. Joep linked the "Dark Witpen" alias "Witpen Earthen" at the "Blue Stone", which was undoubtedly the major Barcelona behind the successes of the combination Nipius Van Dongen in the 60s. A direct daughter of the couple also won the 2nd national Dax in 1959. "The Witpen 76" became father of the "Dark 76" which won seven awards from St Vincent and Dax. He was one of the best racers of Nipius. "Blue 75" was the mother of the incomparable "Barcelona" won the award six times from Barcelona. A brilliant crack and perhaps the best Barcelona racer at that time in the Netherlands. The descendants of the "Dark Witpen" and the "Blue Stone" were in the whole tribe Nipius-Van Dongen intertwin
  7. From the first Sunday of January to the first Sunday of May, in the market square Lier , between 6 and 13 hours (in the past few years the exact location in Lier has been changes a few times partly due to building works) Many successful birds originate from Lier. The ET of Andres Drapa, in Scotland John Duthie had a wonderful mealy, In both instances they were from very good lofts. A lot of lofts are not good but the times I have been there is usually somebody decent (last time had Frans Laeremans and a guy I have been following for years but his birds were gone in 10 seconds by the Germans before I could even say hello, I guess got to say “Auf auf Wiedersehenâ€. Of course buying from a good loft possible means little in January when they should need them maybe you should buy a set from origins that look healthy Again in the greatest sport in the world some good fun to be had , visiting lofts, re—invigorating yourself in preparation for the season ahead, almost inevitably for a let-down when you have simply bought rubbish (like we all breed)
  8. Hi Ron Have pm'd and left a message at your home this morning. Can you call on the numbers provided or pm a convienant time for me to call. Thanks Glen
  9. Hi Could I reserve the following 22) The Elite – Belgian Champions by Ernst Nebel. (Hardback) Price : £25 4) The Pigeon Fancier Prepares Part 1 – Essential Modern Racing Techniques by Antoon Malfait. (Paperback) Price : £10 Thanks Glen
  10. Alive. Races ok , union Antwerp for middle distance and de Kempen for Sprint. With respect to nominations does well so is usually in the top 10 in the Antwert Union championships. Was very good in the 80's. Basically through Gunther Prange his LINES are represented. His Quiverainman was fantastic but we are talking years ago. A small stud had his family I think late 80's but I can't remember the name (something in my head thinks they were somewhere near Kings Lynne but that could be wildly wrong).
  11. Hi The breeder and ring card owner Is Alois Bertels of Retie (small town near Arendonk) Address Noordstraat 42 2470 Retie Telephone 0032 14371461 probably a lier market pigeon as the fancier is a fairly small team man
  12. Blue ch wf 14ne3068 in Aberdeen. has been around the loft for 3 weeks , it roosts on top of the loft at night and goes away at 5.00 am and returns at dusk. tonight (just now) I went on top of the loft and caught her. Nice hen and full crop so no idea how she looks after herself all day. Can arrange to liberate closer to her home if the owner does not want to collect. She has never entered the loft in 3 weeks so has something about her.
  13. Congratulations Stuart, a wonderful performance to win a momentous race. Hopefully a boost to the North East fancy and In particular national racing. And forever more you will be able to paraphrase your daughter "Did I mention , I won the National". Kind Regards Glen
  14. SNFC Ypres In the past years a lot has been made of the great war 100 year anniversary race from Ypres. Indeed you would be let to believe this was the reason for the decision to have a race from Ypres/Ieper. Now all of a sudden there is little fanfair, I may of course be wrong and tv cameras will be present at the marketing etc, but I am unsure hence the mail. This race represents a readily marketable opportunity for the Scottish fanciers to put a positive and empathic view of our sport across to the public with a story that will resonate . Least we forget pigeons and peace are inextricably linked. We have to ensure this is done. Of course with will this can be achieved at any time but the anniversary is a marketing opportunity. I hope we have cameras prepared and are preparing a short promotional video When I mention the race from Ypres at work , I may be egging the race up by calling it the war race but there is considerable interest in the race. This is not about winning the race the race individually but winning for our sport, let’s do something positive If you should win please don’t call it the good blue clock, call it something memorial and marketable for the public. My two prepared for the race have been called Menin Gate & Poppy respectively all year should they fall at the hurdle (like I guess so many 100 years ago) please feel free to take the names or improve upon them but let’s get the liberation & winners into the wider public domain To opportunistically borrow from Kitchener's immortal words “Your sport needs you, this is an opportunity†Good luck to all who send

John & Paul Dora was the King cup from Rennes in 1961 into Arbroath and to my knowledge is the furthest North winner of the Kings cup from Rennes. Also this pigeon won the race on the day. It was a real super pigeon , it scored previously from Rennes , it topped the old Tayside Federation from Cheltenham(this now contains Dundee, Angus and Aberdeen feds) amongst many other prizes The furthest North winners of the Kings cup was G Willox and Heathers Dream in 1998 from Alencon A nice article that verifies the above is in the attched link www.snfc.co.uk/article/SNFC%20History.doc All Kings cup winners deserve the recognition.
  18. Maybe not the greatest of dvd's but Brian Clayburn made a video of Jos Soontjen. Somebody may have a copy.
  19. Thanks Arek Will deliver the bird to my dad tomorrow. Nice meeting you, thanks for taking the effort to report the pigeon. As mentioned I am off to Poland / Kraków) for a wedding in a few weeks time so if you know any faciers in the vacinity let me know.
  20. Hi Thanks for reporting. It is my dad’s Charlie Cameron- Arbroath . Just like its owner it has taken a trip to Aberdeen and missed his son. I can collect tonight or on my way to work tomorrow approx 8.00 am Give me PM with your preference
  21. Mr & Mrs E Corkett & Sons of Leighton Buzzard have a team of FVW which are amongst the best in Britain. Their FVW were from Walters & Broadhurst Shaun McDonough (Walsall, UK) also has exceptional results often quoted as best sprint fancier in Midlands area has at the base FVW obtained from his father who obtained many of his FVW from Walters & Broadhurst The base Ace hen of W&B won 3* 1st as a young bird (if my memory is correct) and was allegedly from Grinni Beer of Bill Grinsell and the hen was sister to the Fielder also. So two of the finest lofts in the UK still have the lines of RoadRunner , The Jet , Whitenose etc.
  22. Hi Kelly Sorry about your sad news. Indeed your grandfather was an excellent pigeon fancier. Essington Express, Dark 61 and Dark 62 amongst others were unbelievable pigeons. Regards to your family
  23. Indeed, should have thought of that one Harry !
