  11. Good to see the optimism Geo, yes the fighting and squabbling is perfectly fine, they are sorting out the hierarchy within the loft, they will sort themselves out, but will STILL fight over just about anything. :D

  15. Fair point Frank, but i gave an honest answer to the question. SNFC is far more difficult racing than Federation racing, and no being an in with the bricks National diploma winner, i would have sent her with the Fed. I've no many old birds about me the now either, and i would fancy just about any of ma doos to RETURN from the Fed channel race and be with me for next season, though i understand perfectly well that they go down in the Fed races too, but not in the same percentage as national races. Well no in my loft anyway, others may feel/think differently and i respect their thinking on it.
  16. Difficult question, but i would say that she would have gone with the fed, even after Saturday i'm still left with the ambition to top the Fed from the Channel race, cos wee Matts doo topped it. I regard winning the Section in National as far more difficult a challenge for the doo, so i would have sent her to what i THOUGHT was the easier challenge, the Fed!
  17. Are you sure your doos can TALK Danny?? I've been in the game all ma days and i've never had a doo turn up late and tell me where its been :D :D
  18. I LOVE duplication races
  19. You'll get there Geo, just learn as you go, we have all done it. You will find in time, things that buck the trend, will suit you, everybody's pigeons are managed differently, yet there are winners from all sorts of management systems, don't knock yourself out finding out everything about them at once, because it'll be your management that the birds will adapt to, and when they realise what you want from them, they will respond to it. Have a nice relaxed time with your doos and watch them closely, you will soon see they all have different little characters and behaviour patterns. If you know anyone in the sport who would visit you and point some things out, you will learn "live" what to look for in the birds. ;)
  20. Let them out the same time every day (7.30am) before i go to work, fed when they get back in. When they stop eating, all of them not just the ones who dominate the feeders, i lift the feeders away and thats them 'til next morn. As the racing is only 3 weeks away now, i will start them on getting out twice a day, in the morning they will be brought in using Red Band, in the evening they will get a full feed. If they mess me about in the mornings, i'll cut the evening feed gradually until they are acting the way i want them. When the training starts on the 17th, they will be one of 3 places, in the basket in the sky or in the loft, that will be the regime until the end of the season, though i do like to put the bath out on Sunday's to sit and observe them. Try it out, it works.
  21. I once answered a question with the words, Routine Routine Routine! Routine is the single most important part of keeping ANY type of livestock, more so to those who are asked to perform for human interest, doos, horses and dogs etc. If you don't have them on a fixed routine, they simply won't perform in the race basket. On top of that you will lose control of the birds, as they won't know if they are coming or going. I would never weigh my birds food either, they can eat as much as they want when the feeding is in front of them, i believe they know better than us, the amount of intake they need, on any given day. jmo
  22. Drink
  23. Had the young birds out at 7.30, back in for 8.30, now at work!! Could see it far enough :(
  24. Aye the cash is handy, but to be fair her target was always Ypres, as she is a 2008 latebred, i wouldn't have sent her 560mls, but there were a couple of others i had in mind for Reims but they either went down or showed me they've no got it in them to do that distance.
