My understanding is that ownership of a fence is dependent upon where the fence posts are situated, however, normally there is a border line and the fence should run along it. :)

have a look on your deeds, see where the border line is, if the fence runs on it its half yours, years ago when I got my garage built they left 2ft, om my neighbours side reason was if on line they could do what they want with it, and i would have to go on their property to do anything with it,

If you check with your local council office Billy they're planning department should have a boundary map that will out-line your property that will possibly help you with your problem.

when YOU walk out into the garden the Fence / wall etc. on the LEFT is yours. Also the good side of the fence must face the neighbour.

Funnily enough took counsel on this only a month ago. Of course in detached :).

The deeds of the house will state of course which one is allowed to see if in dispute.
