Walter swanston Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 Sometimes I get weary of this game.A pigeon arrives here , I phone the number on its leg , the fancier asks me to "dispose" of the pigeon.A lovely chequer cock by the way.I have absolutely no intention of "disposing " of the bird.
walterboswell59 Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 i understand what your saying walter but some guys dont have the transport or the money to get there birds home and i see there point but think he could have put it better than that m8 shame
Walter swanston Posted May 9, 2016 Author Report Posted May 9, 2016 Yes sure I completely understand the problem and expense in getting birds back but why put a phone number on its leg.I repeat I ain't killing pigeons because the fancier cannot afford to have it collected,I have repatriated strays for years but to to be asked to dispose of the bird I thought was a bit much

ally mac Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 And the sorry thing is if our doos ended up in his loft they would probably end up in the bin. Fortunately not all like that though and its always a pleasure to help them get home, and have others help ours get home.

eastcoaster Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 Would never ask for bird to be disposed of unless they offer first but on other side I have 10 missing and if they were all reported in different areas it would cost £400 to get them back ,

Roland Posted May 10, 2016 Report Posted May 10, 2016 i understand what your saying walter but some guys dont have the transport or the money to get there birds home and i see there point but think he could have put it better than that m8 shame Think that they have to Walter per Union rules. Maybe not so in Scotland, I don't know. The problem stems back to 'Can - just - afford to keep them, but not to lose them. A very sad truth in this day and age. Would never ask for bird to be disposed of unless they offer first but on other side I have 10 missing and if they were all reported in different areas it would cost £400 to get them back. Well said. Exactly! That is why the Unions can't enforce the rulings. Another 30% or more would leave. Sending it up the road for a single lib in that direction via some one may help ... or give another fancier the hassle.
peter dempsey Posted August 1, 2016 Report Posted August 1, 2016 had one of my birds drop into a very kind Scotch man last year he contacted me and duly kept the bird safe until the Transporte rwas in Scotland he went out of his way to meet the Transporter and duly dropped the bird back also he sent me some beautyfull young birds for free of charge a propper Gent I wont name him as we have become friends and exchange emails thank you my friend (Thompson Hagerty )hope all the Family are keeping well
eric owenson Posted August 1, 2016 Report Posted August 1, 2016 I always give any stray in the chance to move on if not I report it. I would not be the judge and jury for the pigeon You don't want to be talking about this on this site.

If we lost 10 birds in England it would cost £650 to get them to Aberdeen Roland :emoticon-0179-headbang:

JohnQuinn Posted August 2, 2016 Report Posted August 2, 2016 Like Walter I canny see the sense putting a contact number on a bird if ye have no intention to send for it. Normally when dealing with a stray I ask the fancier what he wants done with the bird, then carry out their wishes. If someone phones me about one of my own I usually ask right away if they like/want the bird and if so I deal with the transfer for the finder. If they don't want to keep it I send a courier asap after speaking to them. In this instance I would send it home via the stray centre then the owner has to take responsibility for it himself.
