dava Posted May 1, 2016 Report Posted May 1, 2016 Stuart I don't think you could have done much wrong yesterday I think the doos must have got rattled big time with the hawks and the doos have scattered in every direction that's the only explanation for your race even inexperienced doos should rattle in from that distance ,hope your feds doos work in, to early in the season for use to take a dunt like this
walterboswell59 Posted May 1, 2016 Report Posted May 1, 2016 (edited) lanarkshire was hit to guys not hard to work out when birds are coming out the east in a west wind and its just your luck if percy is hunting when you lib or someone else libs in front of you and attracts more bop to the area race controllers can only go with the weather they dont have a magic wand to make bops go away yes we had good returns but as some guys say some were gappy for an eighty mile race i had 48 well trained yearlings at the race and my channel birds out for there first race with only three tosses knocked the s t out them in a true race this should not happen old heads got them home and a bit of luck i think not at the races but home one yearling to come from 69 birds sent but the old birds worked it out much better than the yearlings ive never lost more than one or two birds in old or youngbird racing from otterburn yet others in our fed have been hammered from there just yer luck i think and nothing a race controller can do about it the birds are getting hit every few miles down the road and thats fact and lanarkshire will get its turn also as ive said before it only gets worse from here on in and the wee team man has no chanceps and big stuart is no fool the man does his homework and his birds are there to thankless job where you just cant win someone always gets a bad race and thats the way it is now and for the future hope you guys get them through today but weather is not helping Edited May 1, 2016 by walterboswell59
bullcock Posted May 1, 2016 Report Posted May 1, 2016 Stuart I don't think you could have done much wrong yesterday I think the doos must have got rattled big time with the hawks and the doos have scattered in every direction that's the only explanation for your race even inexperienced doos should rattle in from that distance ,hope your feds doos work in, to early in the season for use to take a dunt like thisI said it earlier, the peregrines must love Glasgow birds. It's groundhog day again, we had to send for a bird reported in Liverpool from this race last year, it will be interesting to see where birds get reported from this race and we might get an idea of what direction they went.
bullcock Posted May 1, 2016 Report Posted May 1, 2016 I was sick as a parrot last night pal ,I had to go out a run in car with wife to get away from pigeons for a while , gutted for all the guys who lost birds , myself I've only 10/26 . So took a hit the same as everyone else .It's sad to say it but we knew this was coming 100% from two dunbars them boom at Otterburn, but we have to go or we will be taken a bigger jump next week, ( we still have some to blood) it's the same old chestnut, starting too early and it'stoo cold. And the majority will vote for it again next year. And so on......
Darnaway Posted May 1, 2016 Report Posted May 1, 2016 Got another one this morning so know up to 42/46 so can't complain and as previously mentioned on posts the controller did an excellent job and gave the birds the best chance to get home but it's hard to legislate for BOP

So took a hit the same as everyone else .Hi Stuart, in my opinion you had the liberation spot on yesterday. It was not unreasonable to wait for some heat in the air. Once the birds are released its really in the lap of the gods.Last year both Ayrshire federation and Glasgow had poor young bird races from Otterburn on the same day. I competed in both events and had several youngsters work back about 2 weeks later. Like most fanciers you never think before you act and I bet most of these youngsters which failed last year went back this year as old birds and repeated the mistake. For the record any pigeons I have missing now we're either hawked previously or inexperienced.Race Control is a very big responsibility and even though you give it 100% it can occasionally go belly up.The misinformed criticism which is printed on here and on other web sites mainly populated by muppets helps no one. Results from Otterburn over the years have not been good so perhaps the criticism should be aimed at those who didn't attend the AGM to propose an alternative.
geordie1234 Posted May 1, 2016 Report Posted May 1, 2016 Stuart I commend you for taking on an impossible job I for one would never be a controller nor 99.9% of fanciers mate....jst bad luck yesterday...we get it every year mate from any race point.
